I just the other day purchased a gameboy advance sp. I never thought I would actually use a handheld. Being in my early 30's, the thought of playing a portable unit like this actually scared me. Grow up dammit, I thought. Boy am I glad I changed my mind and made the plunge.
I am currently playing Super Mario World, and I honestly cant believe how much fun I am having playing it. I must have forgotten what these games were like, because I really dont remember them being this good. To anyone who says that games today have gotten harder, I say hogwash. Give butter bridge 1 a try and tell me how easy it is. Playing this game is giving me a sense of joy no video game has in a long long time, even my wife is playing it, the minute I put it down, she picks it up. I plan on starting a link to the past next, and fully expect the same type of result, utter gaming bliss.
As for the SP itself, what an amazing piece of hardware. So small, so easy to see and play. The damn thing is a work of genius. Anyone out there who bought an N-gage over one of these needs to have their head examined asap.

I know I will get plenty of strange looks when I am seen with this thing, but I really dont care, the sheer joy I am getting from it, should easily make up for the odd jab from my rapidly aging co-workers.

Ahhh, to be young again

Sincerely, reborn in Canada.

well i'm 24 and have never had any worries about playing my gba(not an sp, just the normal purple one, lol). I've never worried about image though, i've always just played what i enjoy. if your co-workers bug you about it, i say you tell them to grow up. either that or let them try it, they might just like it!

I haven't bought GBA yet, but with each nostalgic release of games i grew up with, it seems inevitable i will.  I was considering bying the GBP first, but i know i must get Super mario advance 1-4, Metroid, Double Dragon, Golden Sun, and the Breath of fire games.  But i agree Canuck, to some extent.  We're close in age, and i havent been able to grasp the idea yet.  Having time to play portable is another problem, which is why i'm leaning towards the GBP.  Its funny to think that our generation is really the first to grow up with Video games, on a huge level.(Atari 2600, Colecovision, NES).  Its kind of uncharted waters to be this old and play them, so we're going to be looked at a little weird sometimes, but we're just breaking them in for all generations that follow.  Keep your head up!

I got my SP shortly after launch and I love it.  The 2 games I bought first were Link to the Past and Super Mario World.  I played Super Mario World all the way up to @#!&*@ Butter Bridge where I'm currently stuck.

I have found that I do get quite a bit of use out of my SP.  I play it alot while in the car waiting for my son to get out of school.  There is also time found on breaks at work and at night in bed since the GC is the living room.

Nobody has said anything negative to me about it.  They sometimes look at me in disbelief but I really don't care.  And as for the N-Gage, I was at Gamestop today where they already had several used ones for sale.  Didn't ask what they wanted for them, but I did snicker at the fact that so many were already sold back.

I can't play my GBA or GBA SP in a car, that is moving.  I don't know why but it just makes me dizzy and feel naseaus.  I can't read in a moving car either.

it took me at least 30 tries to get past butter bridge, and when I was done I was so relieved. Then came the part where you have to clear the level in under a certain amount of time. It only gets worse I am afraid, oh my aching thumb.

How does one "get stuck" on Butter Bridge?  There are two bridges to get you to Cookie Mountain and the lower one, Cheese Bridge, isn't that hard so realistically Butter Bridge cannot prevent you from continuing in the game.

Wait until you get to Tubular.  HA HA HA HA!

How different is the game compared to the original on the SNES?

different screen size.  you can play as luigi.  i think that's it.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I've actually played the game the whole way through on SNES and Butter Bridge 1 gave me trouble then too but I did eventually do it.  I'm glad to hear it took you that many times, cubed, now I know I'm not the only one who was frustrated.

Ian: I know there's another way around but I like to complete all the levels. And yeah, I remember Tubular being a serious pain in the butt.

Bill, sure! Great! I'll send it right away.  Look for it in the next few days.  You'll send it back as soon as you complete Butter Bridge, right?....right?.........Bill?....uh...hello?
