Interesting Killer 7 information
« on: October 25, 2003, 04:37:38 AM »
well  www.gamecubeland.com  has some interesting information reguarding killer 7
i will post a few snippets that were interesting right here- some of which involve the even weirder gameplay

"“While Killer 7 is an adventure game, movement is not freeform, but confined to a single button that instructs the player to follow a path which regularly branches in different directions. ‘I’m very proud of the travel system inside the game,’ says Suda-san. ‘It’s like a racing game. You push the acceleration button so that your character speeds up. When you arrive at a spot with a choice of directions, arrows appear and you just need to choose the direction where you want to go. The game camera and travel systems are two of the most important features of the game.’”

"“The goal is to locate an enemy which is also capable of changing form, using sound – specifically the enemy’s laugh – as a guide. ‘Yes, you get frustrated hearing this enemy laughing at you!’ exclaims Horiyuki-san with glee. When the player believes the enemy is close, they can trigger a battle sequence. ‘You can fire at will,’ points out Suda, ‘there’s no ammo limitation. Well, you need to reload, but that’s just to make the game better.’”

this game becomes stranger and stranger every time i read about it now- i cant wait to see some ingame action soon
i call the big one bitey.

yeah... a little too strange for me

im not a big fan of the constricted movement.. i hope that it doesnt get boring, for this game coulda been a wicked third person adventure game (with free movement and a plethora of moves)
I'll shut up now...

Ugh.  Whats up with the Dragon's Lair style of movement?

When you believe the enemy is close you can trigger a battle sequence?  That sounds AWFUL.  That doesn't sound like you pop out (in-game) from the corner guns blazin' - it sounds more like you just hit a button and are warped to some generic fighting area RPG style.  I hope that was just fuzzy translation.

Are enemies - to save the programming, extra art frames and FUN apparently, going to be on predetermined paths of movement?

Despite the all over the board reviews, I'm leaning toward XIII.  This one sound like its shaping up to be tons of style and not enough gameplay or interaction.

Well, all I can contribute to this is that you guys shouldnt get to worried yet.
Look what Viewtiful Joe turned out to be, and that game was absolutely strange at first.

hey you guys need to keep an open mind....it is new and hopefully innovative. i say well done to capcom for having the guts to try something new, even, if they fail ( P.N.03).

Here we go again, judging a game by some miniscule details and shoddy screenshots...Will it ever end!?

No Bill it won't. This game will be critiqued before a demo even exists and I'll bet the same thing will happen when the first WW2 screens come out.

PN03 owns.  I actually hold it higher than Viewtiful Joe for sheer funfactor, despite loving both.

Really? I thought P.N.03 was awful myself. I played it a couple of times, and then took it back to the shop. It seemed far too frustrating and stiff to be any fun.

IMO PN03 isn't frustrating, just damn hard. However, you can almost always recognize the error you made, which prevents frustration. (to me frustration means the feeling that it's the game's fault you failed, not your own) The game is pretty much like the Megaman series in that respect.

Hm, nice hearing some of you do like P.N.03! I haven't played it yet, but have it in my import-from-USA list, even after reading some poor reviews around the net. Does it feel as good in motion, as on all the screenshots?

The animation in P.N.03 is really good, even its critics agree on that.
BTW, where do you live? Wasn't it released everywhere?

WTF?! Isn't that going to be boring like hell? This way you have to finish the game instead of roaming around . Hope XIII has a miles better movement system...

Bulgaria. That's Eastern Europe, and it's pretty hard to find a shop with GameCube-related items. Even if you find one it will have something like 4-5 overpriced (~70USD) games..... So I'm constantly importing

XIII got pretty poor ratings for what I see.  This game sounds fun still, but I'm going to have to see what exactly is going on before I get it. . . I may get Geist instead of this, depending.  Or I may get neither

How can people bash K7 that much without even knowing how the gameplay will work out? I mean, there are only very few things sure about this: It'll be extremely hard, it has "easy" and "normal" modes available, after playing through you get "Hard" and "Very Hard" (which both translate to "Insane") and you get powerups for score. At least if we extrapolate from P.N.03 and Viewtiful Joe, that is.

Here are some more details I've missed somehow before, might be old news to some of you.....

TVG: Killer 7 - Third Person

Quote

As we revealed last year, Killer 7 tells of the rivalry between two dark individuals, through their fateful confrontation unravelled through 5 compelling stories and 4 inter-twining worlds in two time periods.

Famitsu revealed that these time periods will take place in the present day and the year 2005, and that the world of 2005 will change depending on the player’s actions in the present day.

The main character, Herman Smith, is a wheelchair bound 65 year-old, however he is recognised as the most dangerous killer in the world. Thankfully we can today bring you further details on the seven personalities that Smith can take on.

Garcian Smith - A man killed by Herman, Garcian has clairvoyant skills and is trusted to look after the rest of his personalities.

Dan Smith - A man with telekinetic powers that allow him to change a bullets trajectory with merely a thought. He killed Herman four years ago.

Masked Smith - A retired wrestler who can use fire to become invincible.

Coyote Smith - The son of Masked Smith who has the ability to teleport items.

Con Smith - A child with strong senses, Herman uses him to deliver false feelings of compassion.

Kaede Smith - A women with the ability to make showers of blood appear, and who loves Dan and Coyote.

Kevin Smith - Sadly not Silent Bob, but a new and mysterious Smith who has been given special orders from Herman.

TVG: Killer 7 - New Details

Whilst it was initially believed to be played in a first-person perspective, Capcom today denied these suspicions by announcing that the game is a mission-based third-person action/adventure, however the viewpoint switches to first-person when an enemy is encountered – which sounds pretty cool to us.

Additionally it’s claimed the game will feature fully working vehicles, however the Japanese publisher refused to be more specific about these.

Gamecubeland: Killer 7 Details

Quote

“The game was expected for Christmas, but during the interview Horiyuki-san hints that the release has dropped from the colder winter (end of 2003) to the warmer winter (start of 2004).”

Some good news for importers, though:
“Killer 7’s dialogue is in English”

[...]

The game is about a hitman. Well, seven hitmen confronting a common enemy called Heaven Smile, who is capable of changing shape by touching people. He’s in the US, and the seven hitmen are dispatched to kill him.’
This manifests itself as the hero having seven lives, as he can switch between the assassins at any point. To switch, he must find a TV, where each of his forms corresponds to a channel.

[...]

[The footage shown so far] implies a shooting game, but Killer 7 is more than that. ‘You might get that idea because of the way we have shown the game so far, but it is very much an adventure game,’ say Horiyuki-san, before [Grasshopper Manufacture director Goichi] Suda-san interrupts: ‘But it does have the action element, where you shoot your enemies in realtime, not like an RPG with turn-based combat. All the hitmen have different weapons … One has a sniper rifle, one a machine gun, one a rocket launcher...

[...]

It’s a violent game … ‘We were asked about the purpose of the game,’ says Horiyuki-san. ‘But we only had one critic, someone from Europe who asked us not to kill a Christian priest onscreen. Nintendo was not opposed, as I think it knew what our intentions were from our work on Biohazard GC.

Capcom are (again) up to something completely new. I want this game!

This game still sounds interesting. . . I'm going to have to wait and see.  I hope I don't have to get Geist and Killer 7.

Killer 7 is looking up, though.  Geist looks really good, and it's a great idea, but I'm not big on typical FPS, even if you can be all incorporeal.

It means "lacking substance," but that is hardly fair considering that neither title is very far along...
