i have always considered rpgs games where you could upgrade stats on characters
in the ogre battle series and final fantasy tactics and fire emblem you can upgrade your classes and hit points
in zelda you have heart containers and such- i consider it more of an adventure game, but i still call it an action rpg
advance wars is a turn based strategy game only- you dont upgrade any of your stats, you just make more units
i call the big one bitey.

That is one of the problem with developers blending the genres. It starts getting hard to ID a games genre.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

Exactly BlkPaladin! Especially with Nintendo. Apparently Wave Race isnt a racing game because it doesnt have cars. Metroid Prime isnt an FPS because its an adventure game with no multiplayer. Pikmin, Pokemon Channel, Animal Crossing and Wario Ware i dont think even HAVE genres.

Zelda - Adventure (the very definition of an Adventure game)
Wave Race - Racing
Metroid Prime - First Person Adventure
Pikmin - Real Time Strategy
Pokemon Channel - Simulation
Animal Crossing - Simulation
Wario Ware - Compilation.

That's my take on it.
Once I had, a little game
I liked to crawl back into my brain
I think you know the game I mean

Well, this looks like it turned out alright.  Thanks for turning it into a real discussion.  By the way, if you think something's a big enough problem that a thread should be locked or someone banned, use the Report it to a Moderator button.  I guarantee we'll address it if we agree that it's necessary.
