Miiverse
« on: November 19, 2012, 10:35:06 AM »
Just wanted to create this thread to discuss Miiverse and add any comments, praises, or concerns in one thread.

I gotta say that I absolutely love what Nintendo has done here! I love how they seem to have mashed Swap Note, twitter, and Facebook into this marvelous concoction. Looking at the activity feed of all my friends from NWR and being able to comment on them directly or follow folks from one menu is very convenient. I can definitely see myself waking up first thing in the morning or after coming home from work and just going over the Activity Feed while on the computer (like now) or eating breakfast.

What I do hope is that they add a tab for leaderboards in the Miiverse, that would make this thing complete for me.

I'm curious and I don't know if it's something that I have to set in settings or if it's simply not yet updated, but can anybody else view the game communites like you do the Wara Wara plaza? You know how they showed what the boot screen would look like before with giant floating icons of games and different Miis congregating around them? For whatever reason, I don't see that. My plaza has the following icons with Miis all around:
  • Miiverse
  • Settings
  • Friends List
  • WiiU Chat
  • Nintendo Network
  • Wii
  • Nintendo TVii
  • Mii Maker
  • eShop
  • Internet Browser
Maybe they're gonna roll it out later.  As a side note, switching the plaza to GamePad view and then zoom all the way to the mii level, you can see individual's comments in bubbles and select them to save those miis to your mii maker.

Miiverse is the secret killer app. I figured out how to view other people's friend's lists and send people requests. I'm sure Nintendo will polish up the interface as it goes.

I wonder if it'll be more streamlined when they launch the mobile apps, interface wise anyway.

Has anyone seen any negative comments about games yet, or will those comments be deleted by Nintendo? I hope the community will be able to call out the awful games and keep people away from them.

I've seen some negative comments in Miiverse proper but, I haven't really seen any by the game icons on the screen.

As long as the comments aren't lewd, vulgar, discriminatory, or (somehow) include personal info, it should be fair game. If the criticism is constructive, I don't think there should be a problem.

Anyway, I really like Miiverse. It's a great way to meet new players and discuss games in a focused and (hopefully) douchebag free zone. Like pretty much everything else about Wii U, Nintendo will probably keep optimizing the code to run faster.

I've seen complaints made by people of games on Miiverse around the various game icons. The only comments I e seen deleted I assume were lewd. I have not seen criticism censored so far.

Hey all.

I would love to hear some impressions about Mii creation.  Are there more options than the original Mii creator?  Is it easier?  harder?  More colors?  Is sharing easier?

I used to love creating Miis on my Wii, and I would spend a couple of hours making crazy things.  I am real curious if Nintendo expanded it at all.

I just imported my 3DS Mii, but there has to be some enhancements right? I just hope someday we can get our street pass hats on Miiverse.

This article is AMAZING. Hilarious look at what Nintendo went through to try and block all the inevitable dong drawings that would pop up on Miiverse. Maybe this has been posted elsewhere, but even if it has, it's worth another look.

That was so funny. Can you imagine a room full of guys just studying pictures of real penises and they're like "hmm this penis detection algorithm is still wrong, its still only detecting 40% of our sample images"

"we need to tweak it to accommodate any veins people may draw on the shaft and also any semen that may be coming out of the head"

Even more awkward if there were woman on that team.

The part that really killed me was after a week of examining real penises, they realized that looking at drawings would be more effective. That is GOLD.

LOL, I find it funny that they were looking at real penises for a whole week before realizing they should just be looking at drawings of them.

Wow. I hadn't even thought of the fact that some asshole out there could try to draw vulgar images like that on Miiverse. I mean it's not surprising that Nintendo went all out with protecting ALL of us from this (not just kids, I don't need to see that **** when I'm trying to enjoy a game), if anything I'm just more surprised that the thought didn't cross my mind that someone COULD try to draw a penis and such.

What about breasts or vaginas though? Is nintendo sexist!? (haven't read the article yet)
