Microsoft will do what they do best and brute force their way into the market with an overwhelming supply of cash. They can sell at a loss, and they can use money hats to get exclusives. Whatever it would take. Apple doesn't have as deep pockets as Microsoft does.

And let's not forget that Microsoft can leverage their Desktop computer monopoly to their advantage. You say iOS has games and it does, but no where near as many as the PC market does. Plus Microsoft has its own hit exclusive titles like Halo. What exclusive games does iOS have? Angry Birds? Whatever it is is no match for Halo I'm sure.

I guess you missed the recent news of Apple becoming the most valuable company ever. Microsoft's pockets aren't nearly as deep as Apple's.

Microsoft has greater strategic depth. Windows 8 is going to bring the fight right to Apple's core market, but Microsoft's core market (Desktops) isn't going to be effected. Apple's problem is they've built their house on a pack of cards, which can easily collapse on them. Microsoft's house is built on PCs and their hold is strong and pretty much unbreakable.

When it comes to mobile platforms people don't really care what OS its running. All they care about is ease of use and that it does what they want it to. Windows 8 will provide that, and probably at a more reasonable price than Apple's offerings. This is why Apple is going to lose in the long run.

When I said "people" I mean the mainstream majority. Obviously there will always be fanboys who do care about the OS, but as a rule the majority of people don't care.

That is in terms of their stock value, not how much money the company actually has. In terms of how much money they actually have, it's about $98 billion for Apple and $54 billion for Microsoft. Apple is stingy with their money though.

This will probably be $17 for the completely unplayable (iPhone) version and $20 for the playable (iPad) version, because SquareEnix... well, let's just say that I'm going to get bleeped repeatedly tonight during a podcast recording.

The story was originally about a possible TWEWY 2 announcement for a Nintendo system and was updated once the countdown was over. So it has nothing to do with Nintendo, now.
