I've read that performance wise, the new iPad is basically on par with the iPad 2. All of the upgrades to the processor, battery etc. are there mostly because the screen demands greater resources. For example, battery life is more or less unchanged because a larger battery was employed to match the screen's greater needs. I went to Best Buy the other day to check out the screen and it does look pretty fantastic, much better than the iPad 2. Not good enough to buy one, mind you, but if I were to get one, that new screen would be hard to pass up.
