I'm going on the theory that all stick shifts are male and all automatics are female.

My cars name is Alexus, she has been good to me.

Inside my cavalier it is so cramped that my reception of "gifts" is very limited.  ;)  That car is actually my first and I have owned it for about five years. An ice cream truck got its rear bumper clipped onto my front left fender and pulled it out some. When I notified my insurance company valued my car at $1300. I thought they would just write me check and I would get to keep my car, but no. They said that the car had to confiscated for me to get the money, so kept the car and hammered the fender back into place.

You Round Hauler Car - Chevy Equinox

That's interesting.  I drive a 2008 Equinox.  I used to drive a 2000 Chevy Silverado, but after hydroplaning on the Interstate during a rainstorm, spinning out of control, and somehow ending up safely stopped on the shoulder, I decided that I had used up all the luck I would ever get.  It was time to buy something with some weight over the drive wheels.  I couldn't get a 4WD Equinox off the lot, or I would have.  Unfortunately, I made a man mistake and bought the Sport version.  It's fun and all, but now I get similar mileage to my old pickup.

I'm pretty sure you can fit 20" rims/tires on a Mazda 3, definitely not any higher though. you just need the lowest profile tires you can possibly get. Actually you can - http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2209653 - it actually looks pretty stupid though, at least from the angles of his pics.

I love stick shift driving.

My Corolla is a stick. I can't drive an automatic very well because I pop into manual when I'm at a stand still out of habit and then push it forward into park thinking I'm driving stick. LOL.

My brother has a Volkswagon Gulf which is manual. He won't let me drive it because I haven't used a manual since first learning to drive, when our family had some old hatchback that was manual. How hard can it be?

Is it easier for men because they're used to playing with "sticks"?

You may as well apply black paint around the rim.  Would be cheaper, and possibly a bit thicker than the tires would be.

It's one of those things that feels hard (usually) when you are learning, but once you get the hang of it you wonder why on earth you felt it was hard at all.  Kind of like riding a bike.

I learned how to drive using a manual so I doubt I've forgotten it. Also like riding a bike.

It's surprisingly easy to relearn. I learned in high school and when my dad sold his truck I never drove stick again until November 2008 when I bought an old Saturn. I had my dad test drive it for me because I was so nervous I was going to wreck the transmission before I bought the vehicle. But once we bought it I drove it home and only stalled it 3 times on a 35 minute trip. After a month I was quite comfortable with it and rarely stalled the vehicle. You won't ruin the car. Just try it in an empty lot and the basics come back to you in no time.

Is Dasmos Australian, because that looks like a Queensland rego plate.

Ahaha yep, it was my Auntie's before I bought it. She lives in QLD.

Also I wouldn't dream of driving Automatic. There's not as much control, worse economy, more expensivce (to buy and fix) and basically it's too freaking boring,.

It's interesting to go back to an automatic now. I had to drive a rental car for a day and it was a CVT (sp?) and when it was in automatic mode I hated not being able to change the gears. CVTs don't feel the same though because you don't have a clutch. You just shift the stick to change gears. Feels really clunky.

Stalling doesn't hurt a vehicle.  It's more of an inconvenience (and an embarrassment) than anything else.

Yeah, it's when you grind the gears that it can become a problem. But following normal shifting practices means you won't do that.

My cavalier is an automatic and I have never driven stick to amount to anything. Although my car runs great, I do not see myself driving anything else until my car finally goes to the great junkyard in the sky. Where I live if a car makes it to twenty-five-years-old it is considered an antique. By registering it as an antique, I will never have to buy new tags again for as long as it runs.

Not the original engine though, but yes, the chassis(?) has over 181k on it. Current engine is around 80k.

My car has about 105,000 miles on it and those are actual miles. Pretty good for its age considering that it still has its original engine. The thing moves pretty good to be 24-years-old. Perhaps all the rust is holding it down though.

I blew a gasket on my original engine after an overheating that couldn't been prevented if I had known there was a leak in my radiator sooner.

original engine lasted 170k miles and was still running strong right up till the very end.

1993 Honda Integra. One of the bloody coolant hoses is leaking right now, so it out of service, but getting to the hose is an absolute pain.

It's an auto if anyone is keeping score. I can't drive stick to save my life. I can fly twin engine aircraft safely, but can shift a manual. It's terrible.
