I think it's because Activision licenses Marvel's properties now. Capcom and Activision would have to strike a deal or Marvel would have to allow the agreement with Activision to expire for another Vs. game to happen. I personally don't see either happening. Capcom barely let the Vs. SNK and Street Fighter 4 happen.

I don't think it's because of Activision, as EA made their own versus game with the Marvel characters (and it sucked...) right before Activision made Ultimate Alliance. So I would wager the agreements now are not exclusive in their terms as they have been in the past, which is why Hulk and the Punisher weren't playable in either game (although the Hulk was added in for a re-release on the 360 as it appears the older agreement expired).

So I think the balls in Capcom's court if they want to... and sadly, as you note at the end there, I don't think they have much of an interest...

So far the game is said to be only on 360 and PS3 which is BS! I don't care if they game sucks or not the fact is It is MK and it should be on Wii and the no mature games on Wii BS won't cut it cuz the game is T rated. Gamespot has the details btw.

It'll probably come to the Wii eventually - if there's a PS2 (PSP) version to port over. I've always been a huge Mortal Kombat fan, but this seems very odd to me. DC does have Batman and Superman of course...but that's about it. Marvel and DC have been teaming up off and on recently, it would be a lot better if it was MK vs Marvel and DC. Weren't the MK comics published by Image (Spawn)?

I've never liked seeing Batman paired with people that can shoot fireballs from their bare hands and lasers from their eyes.  I don't even like it when JLA does it.  There really is not smooth transition from battling sick people and/or drugs lords to going up against Darkseid.  I much prefer him when he's playing Sherlock Holmes.

Off-topic: What the world needs now is Plastic Man, sweet Plastic Man.  Though he'd wipe the floor with any mere fighting game character.

Great, first Darth Vader and Yoda in Soul Caliber 4, now the Justice League in Mortal Kombat 8.  All that's left now is for James T Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard to be playable in Street Fighter 4.

Of course on the issue of Marvel vs Capcom, yeah it's doubtful it'll ever happen, but what Capcom should do is take the engine to make another VS series.  My personal dream would be to see a Nintendo vs Capcom.  I mean, after the success of Smash Bros, you'd think Capcom would be on board for such a game since it's bound to be very popular.  Since the Smash Bros series has made movesets for a lot of Nintendo characters, it's also makes Capcom's job much easier since they have something to work with right away.

Yeah, this is even less likely to happen then Marvel vs Capcom 3, but that wont stop me from still hoping.

Its ironic that the statement you quoted was meant to be a joke, but through a new trailer we learned that "the works" will likely be featured in the game.

Well I figured as much, at least in regards to other DC characters, since the Batman and Subzero trailer that I saw prior to making the post used the MK and DC logos... and if they were just using Batman they probably wouldn't have used the DC logo there.

Well I know that, but the point is like last two MK games, even getting late ports sucked. It should be developed for the Wii since it is featuring characters the Wii fan base will likely recognize and if it is T rated they cannot use the M rated games don't sell excuse.

I want it to be known that I do expect the game to suck, Armageddon and Deception both did and there is no evidence adding DC characters will fix the problem. Being the die hard MK fan that I am, I will still buy the game and enjoy what little there is to enjoy solely on my love of the MK story and characters. Marvel vs Mortal Kombat would not work because Capcom already did the VS Marvel thing and Midway would need to differentiate themselves somehow.



Still I looked them up yesterday and their stocks are just barely over $2 a share right now, they must really be hurting so I can see them taking desperate measures like this it just would be suicide to not put it on Wii.

I think the reason these crazy crossovers are becoming more common in fighting games is because the genre has gotten very niche over the years, so they need to pull stunts like these in order to get some attention from people other than the small group of remaining fighting game fans. This will probably become the norm rather than the exception in the future.

I don't like that either.  Batman's appeal comes from the fact that he's not a superhuman, but a regular guy.  There's a sense of realism in comparison to Superman that I find appealing.

I think with comics the fact that the series are all connected hurts them in a bit.  Superman has always seemed kind of lame because he's so powerful.  It also makes other superheroes look lame.  The Flash is super fast but so is Superman so why should I care?  However at that time when Superman debuted the whole appeal was that he had super powers because the concept had not been beaten into the ground yet.  If he is the only human being, except for perhaps one supervillian, who has powers then it's a more unique idea.  On the flip side Batman benefits from a world where no one has special powers.  The fact that there's a big DC universe where powerful Superman is just one of many superhumans, and powerless Batman is kind of inefficient in a world of many superhumans, makes them less special.  I think that's why I tend to get into superhero movies more because the hero is usually the only person around with special abilities.  The Batman Animated Series also benefited from having Batman, Robin and occasionally Batgirl be the only superheroes to show up.

I've always preferred DC Comics over Marvel (though I'm a big Spider-Man fan), but I've never bought a game featuring DC characters because 1) I've never seen flying done right in a video game, and most of the DC guys fly 2) In the case of Batman they rarely capture the right tone [Dark Tommorrow did, but the actual game was atrocious) and 3) Invariably the graphic design will suck. It doesn't have to (see all Marvel Actvision/Capcom titles), but Warner Interactive seems to never be able to get their act together.

That said, the brief teaser looks alright, but I've always hated Mortal Kombat (though it's mostly because they traded good fighting mechanics for blood, and the blood's out here) and while Batman looked awesome...that's not hard to do. Not to mention that $60 is a LOT for a fighting game, and I think I'd hesistate paying that ever for Street Fighter IV, which I'm really looking forward to.

Just like Marvel, they all exist in one mega universe and occasionally cross over into each others territories. DC is actually worse than Marvel at it instead of having cross over events they have a team devoted to the whole concept, the JLA.

Since comic books have been doing major crossovers between universe forever, I don't see why they shouldn't do crossovers in video games.

No I haven't read it.  I have mostly a casual interest in comics.  I've read some big stories like The Dark Knight Returns but other than that I haven't read much.  I like the really exceptional stuff but don't have enough interest to follow comics seriously.  I'm like the guy who owns the greatest hits album for a band but isn't interested in the full albums.

I've never been very interested in Image comics so I know very little about Spawn aside from some general pop culture knowledge I've picked up here and there.
