I know I am derailing the thread in a big way but I've been playing Bioshock in the last few days and remembered Geist.

The reason I bring it up is because the creators of Bioshock have been tooting their own horn about what a creative, innovative and fantastic game they have created, yet the creators of N-space have been quiet and humble yet they truly created something special.

I mean, Bioshock is good and all but its pretty straightforward in execution despite how they hyped how you can control the environments and make choices. In Geist there were some pretty clever and extremely satisfying puzzles, stuff I hadn't seen before in a FPS. The scenarios SB mentioned are so enjoyable because its something you never expect yet do it anyway. I was smiling like an idiot when I possessed a TV and scared the crap out of small rats and them possessed one of them so I could enter a part of the level.

Its stuff like that which leads me to believe that Geist was a flawed but wonderful and humble labor of love. I see Bioshock (and many other FPS games) and think its very pretentious and arrogant.

Sorry for derailing the thread but Geist has so many wonderful moments that its a shame Nintendo did a piss poor job with it...

I can see it being something unique, and I loved the boss fights a lot actually. I just... the game didn't control enjoyably, in addition to frustrating me with dual analog controls. Don't worry though, I'm buying N-Space's next game... Call of Duty 4 for the DS! Can't wait!

N-Space has been a terrible developer for the most part, and while Geist was a unique experience, like Kairon said, the controls really hurt the experience. There is no comparison between it and Bioshock which is a polished, atmospheric game that will be a guiding light for other FPS games. Yeah it isn't the most creative game around, but the pieces fit together so well that it deserves much of the hype it is getting.

if controls were really the biggest issue most people had with geist (yeah, i hated them too) then we should hope they decide to give it another shot for wii to improve on the controlls. adding motion sensing to possesions would be a cool thing too.

maybe geist 2 wouldnt work, since it'll be better to just bury that one under the rug but take the idea of a FPS with some puzzles thrown in and possesion of things, and we can have ourselves a good game.

to get this train back on track....mario and sonic selling 4 million.. i think it can happen. i have a feeling their are enough fans to fill in some of those numbers, and the rest being filled in by lil kids that want anything with sonic and mario in it.

Yes, this game can possibly sell that...but it's going to need serious casual appeal or amazing reviews.

I think it might have the former, but I doubt it will have the latter.
That's my opinion, not yours.

i own geist and i think its crap, it really didn't matter if Nintendo had more games to hype up Wiis launch, Wii is number 1. At least until everyone buys an xbox 360 for halo 3

Well, another weird thing I feel is that Geist has many pure puzzle sections, and a few FPS sections, and a lot of the time they just seem disjointed. These are very differently paced paradigms, and it makes me appreciate MP3 all the more that it blends them as well as it does, because I feel Geist still falls into the same trap of "FPS with puzzles." Puzzles and Action segments need to be two parts of the same coin, not two completely disparate concepts squished together. Both elements of the game design would be needed to be melded together much with much more connectivity, flow, and overall integrity, in any repeat attempt at the concept.

We had Red Steel to fill the FPS niche.

For anyone that hasn't seen it, here's the character select screen for the game.

So Daisy is just as fast as Sonic it seems.  Either Sonic really let himself get out of shape or Daisy's been holding back all this time.

Frankly, I was more than fine with the emphasis on puzzles instead of shooting. I know that FPS games are all about shooting crap like crazy, but every once in a while they should do something weird or completely out of the box and Geist did that, although not 100% perfect. That's also one of the reasons why I liked "The Darkness", even if it featured a lot more shooting than Geist it did provide many things that made it unforgettable and scenes that are hardly seen in FPS games (like the scene with Jenny and the torture scene at the Church).
