FOUR confirmed music tracks in this update, so anyone complaining sucks...

Ice Climber
The Roost - Animal Crossing: Wild World
Pokémon Main Theme - Pokémon Red/Blue
Wild Pokémon Battle - Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire

The new Ice Climber theme is amazing, too...

I disagree.  We won't have a Pictochat character either.  I don't think this proves anything.

You know, I hate to say this, I really do, but...

Did anyone catch what he said about that "Group" mode the other day?  That you could only have as many players as the console would accept controllers?  Then he purported that number to be four at the time being?  Something like that, at least?  That struck me as a strange thing to say, since we know you can play with both GC controllers and with Wiimotes, making at least eight controllers a possibility.

Then, today, we get a screen showing the rumble options, and what's on the screen?  Six controllers.  Three cube controllers and three Wiimote combos.  This means that Brawl in particular is able to utilize all eight controllers at the same time, at least in the options screen.

Now, I know I'm drawing conclusions, yes, I admit that, but does anyone get the feeling that we might see more than four players allowed in a match?  Is it possible that six or eight players would be included?  In Melee, we saw one battle with six opponents that weren't wire frames, but we did see more than four, nonetheless.  I get the feeling that, like the character screen, we've been seeing slightly modified screens to make it look like there's only four possible players at a time.  I would not be surprised to see an announcement at some point in time talking about additional players, at least, in local, single-console play.

In fact, considering the game was supposed to be released by now, with a nicely announced Dec. 3rd release date, didn't it seem odd that they pushed the date back?  Would it take that long, you know, three months, to add in a character or two?  I dunno.  Perhaps they wanted to pursue this possibility as well...

That's an interesting theory. It's all based on one sentence and it's structure, but still very interesting.

That sentence is:
Quote

The number of people who can play is limited by the number of controllers that can connect.

Why wouldn't he clarify that? Or simply say the max is 4?

Thanks!  You found exactly what I'm talking about!  The second point is that today, he showed six controllers connected!  That's two more that how many are stressed the day before!

Don't forget, there's a five-player Bomberman game out there on the VC that I don't own that I should own, but if that's any indicator, it's certainly possible for at least eight controllers to be connected!

Not to mention...the DS!  Though that's really stretching it, the DS could become a possible control option...maybe I should try to email Sakurai to suggest this!  Heck, together, he and I could delay this game another month or two!

I believe the idea was that players who preferred to use GC controllers or Wiimotes could use whichever one they wanted and they'd have to swap less often.

Look, I'd love to have 6-8 player Smash, but I think you're just reading too much into something which we analytically knew SSBB would need, since it has support for both GC and Wiimote controllers.

At least its better that donning pink shades that makes everything look wonderful and pretending that crap tastes like cake...

Look, like I said in my earlier post, I know people have different views on things but at times you have to admit when something is crappy and stupid and this is one of those times.

The options menu has been a staple of gaming since the 16-bit days. Any game that doesn't offer that does not deserve being looked at. Just because Brawl has it it doesn't make it a fantastic addition.

And I give a crap about the "confirmed" song selections. We know the game will have multiple tracks, so why make a big deal over some songs? It won't change the way the game is played.

Long story short, no matter what YOU or anyone else says it won't change the fact that they just made an update about something you could've learned about by reading the manual.

I know that Sakurai is stalling for time and will eventually drop a megaton on us but there is much better stuff to talk about, stuff we actually care about. The fact that they paired up a music update with the main update pretty much tells you that even Sakurai thought the update was shallow.

Hell, if it wasn't for the fact that Brawl will be released next month in Japan I would've suggested that Sakurai took a break from the blog. After all, in the old blog he said that he would focus on the game and come back when there was something to talk about. By the way the updates are turning out I rather have him take a break and focus on taking a break or talking about how wonderful inserting the game disc on the Wii for the first time is.

Well clearly we are at odds at what draws us to Smash Brothers...As this is a nostalgia game, I'm drawn to the addition of anything from Ninty's collection of franchises...So yes, even music is something to get excited about for me...

Fair enough, but its hard to deny that the adventure mode has the best nostalgia factor in the whole game. The music is neat, but since most of it will be remixed (and the results have been mixed IMHO) it doesn't inspire the nostalgia factor in me.

I still think we should wait and listen to these tracks first.

Some of the remixes have been decent while others have been utter bastardizations of the songs they were based upon.

Nobody should be expecting anything big (unless it's Captain Falcon) until December 24th and beyond, so be glad that Sakurai's taking care of all the lesser updates now, so that this way he can focus on all the big stuff latter.  I'd rather have the Option update now, then in mid January when he should be dropping MEGATON bombs like crazy.

Plus I don't see why anyone should even care about the updates this week when Coro Coro is supposedly going to reveal the starting lineup on the 15th, which will be the 14th over here.  And if the info is leaked, it'll actually be the 13th over here, which OMG is tomarrow.

True, but still, I'm sure there are smaller updates worth talking about. Hell, if today's update was just the Ice climbers track I would've ignored it and moved on.

We haven't gotten an adventure mode update in weeks now. We still have board the platforms left to be confirmed, how we are going to use the coins we earn in single player and how the characters will power up in adventure mode. Surely those serve as small but more worthwhile updates.

And I actually don't expect anything special out of the Coro Coro article and could be just the fans taking things way out of proportion. I expect them to reveal the already confirmed characters with a couple of new veterans and maybe ONE newcomer.

Talking about CoroCoro, RumorReporter just put up something related...

"In a few days, we’ll have more word on details in a Japanese magazine called Koro Koro. The latest issue goes on sale in Japan on the 14th, with my tipsters telling me that very intriguing Smash Bros. Brawl news is imminent. A new mode? Probably not. But a guess of a new character wouldn’t be too far off."

Of course, I don't take too kindly to his posts anymore after his Golden Sun travesty...

Pretty pointless update. pap64 brought up how you could just read about the options in the manual, but on top of that and since no one really reads the manual, most people would probably stumble upon the menus and options by just messing with the menus and options. If they don't, they probably don't care much anyway.

To IceCold and Kashogi: That's another mentality I find annoying, the "guilt" mentality. Its basically saying that we can't criticize an update because Sakurai is constantly updating the blog and we "are being ungrateful". I honestly rather have Sakurai stop updating the blog and come back when he is done with the game.

Look, I understand that not every developer takes the time to make a blog and update it daily with new info. But simply because Sakurai does that it doesn't mean that we must approve of every single update. Its like excusing the lazy behavior of an employee simply because he has a wife and kids.

If you people liked the update, despite its redundancy, fine. I won't shove down that fact down your throats anymore. However, don't you even dare try to change MY perception of an update simply because you are too freaking hyped and worship the ground Sakurai walks on.

People will have negative opinions on stuff, deal with it.

I agree with Pap: Sakurai locked himself into an update every day and would've probably been fine if not for the delay and now he's scraping for subject matter.

Right now, Sakurai is like that guy on a date who's desperately trying to fill the air with conversation to avoid awkward silences: he'll prattle on about ANYTHING because, in his mind, silence is worse.

On the subject, I highly doubt the CoroCoro announcement will be anything worthwhile.
