Who made Vampire Rain? I hope they lose money, then make lots of Wii games to make that money back!

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

It ain't your fault Bloodworth. It was a nice piece btw, and if they didn't include Galaxy I think hell would've frozen.

A doughnut game...wow, lol, just as wierd as that game "Go! Go! Minon".

I've kept my eyes virgin from watching any Chibi-Robo PP or Zelda PH vids, even though I really do have this incredible urge to watch them but I don't want to spoil myself.

Haven't had time to update this thread for obvious reasons, but here are some of the E3 updates, with many more to come. I was involved with these in one way or another, but of course I did a lot more like helping with interviews that other people conducted, downloading dozens of trailers, etc., etc.

Did you get stuck with all the crummy games?  You weren't involved with the awesome Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 gameplay videos?

I bet they do that to freshmen GT staff.  You should lead us in a mighty rebellion to let you play the fun games.

Although, I too, would like to know what you thought about the new E3.  Better or worse for obtaining info?

What? There's only two or three crummy games on that list.  I wasn't able to play Metroid, thanks to Nintendo not putting it on the floor, but I did go through most of the Mario demo.

As for the new E3, it was easier without the crowds, but having to travel made things a real pain.  The first day I made the mistake of driving myself and literally spent over an hour trying to find parking, going from one hotel to the next.  Luckily I was on the only crew with two writers, so I was able to drop our other guys off to handle the appointment while I looked for a spot for forty five minutes. E3 attendees were competing with other people parking for Wednesday's Farmers Market (closing off one of the streets), you couldn't park on half the streets because of street cleaning, and the hotel lot was full.

The other thing that sucks about having to drive around is that there is almost no chance of seeing games outside your appointments.  Barker Hanger was far away from everything, and most of the games weren't there anyways - Nintendo's booth only had Mario, Wii Fit, Brain Age 2, and Zelda.  Metroid was only at their suite and other Wii games were spread out at other publisher's booths and suites.

What we probably need next year is for the show to return to a central location like the Convention Center, but keep the crowds down and design the booths with plenty of room to move and set up.

Anyways, a few new bits went up today:

I think you should encourage them to stick it in Seattle, to where PAX will be this year.  I went there once, to a pharmacy convention, and it looked pretty big, had a stage area, and everything.  It's Seattle, so it's about as close to Japan as the USA can get, Nintendo and MS are already based there, and it makes a nice vacation spot, too.

Blood, was it really a better environment for playing the games and everything? In my mind, this new E3 is an experiment that has to die soon. I think next year it will be back to the festival convention type thing, but more toned down.

I don't think it's good to limit access to non-professionals either. In this industry, those that don't get paid do a lot of the work of the gaming press, and there's no way to break into professional game writing without first doing volunteer game writing. I think the new E3 might kill fansites (which is both good and bad).

Can anyone tell me if places like GoNintendo, TMK, and the like got to go? How many people from these websites made it to the show?

GoNintendo, yes.  TMK, no.
The distribution of passes wasn't exactly uniform among different sites.

The "environment" varied from booth to booth of course, but overall, once you got somewhere, it was much easier to cover everything in the booth/suite. No worries about putting bags down or shouting over crowds or waiting in line. The biggest problem, again, was the time lost traveling from one location to another, often on the other side of town during busy traffic.

I'd say E3 needs to refine who they let in/don't let in, but I get the feeling that whoever does the screening doesn't know who's been around and who hasn't.
