Massive Sunday Wiilaunch...
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:26:57 AM »
I've heard from many sources at this point that Sunday will be a massive "Wiilaunch", with Best Buy, Target, Gamestop and likely many others hoarding Wii supplies to sell them Sunday morning.

iTrackr confirms that all my local Targets and Gamestops show as having scanned Wiis in, yet none of the employees at these stores will admit that they have Wiis for sale, meaning they've been told to shut up for the Sunday Wiilaunch.

Not sure if anyone here is still trying to acquire a Wii, but this might be your last chance for a while to acquire one, bundle-free.

Remember what I told you, SB. Get as many friends as possible then station them on different stores so that your chances of getting a Wii are higher, and BE PERSISTENT.

I hope that after this shipments of the Wii are constant and on time, although I have the feeling that once all the Wiis are gone this Sunday it will be a while till we find one again.

Go there and hope you have to ask one of the employees that, or just stand at the front door.

The worse case scenario is that it's obvious because there are already a ton of people there.

You generally stand in line right outside the door, but I don't think an hour is early enough.

BB opens at 10 AM, I believe, so I'll be putting on many layers and getting there as early as 6 AM.

Yes, but the viral chain took over and it's basically my fault that it did so.

I got two at launch, and second one went to my brother, but I still needed 3 more. 1 for my GF, another for Pap (who lives in the boonies and has no chance in hell of getting one) and one for Cap who helped me with the Wii hunt on numerous occasions and needed one for his sister.

I snagged one at Wal-Mart before xmas for my GF, but that still leaves at least one more as Cap's sister found one.

But I'm taking two friends with me because having a Wii or two in reserve for when other people I know try it and want one or I'll just ebay them, but I suspect I can find people who want them for sure.

If you were sane, you'd buy a Wii for yourself.

Wii Sports alone is worth the purchase. I use Wii Boxing as part of my exercise routine because at the pro level, it's an incredible workout.

So with Sunday coming and Wiis finally available after the Holiday rush we can finally see if demand for the Wii continues to be high.

We are all commenting about how the PS3s demand has dropped since the holiday season, and just assumed that the Wii demand is still high.  Now we finally can test that theory.

If the Wiis sell out relatively quickly or even within the first week they are made available, then I think that will prove the Wii is still highly in demand.  If the same situation with the PS3s occur with the Wii, then it just means that the PS3 and Wii demand was highly brought on by holiday madiness, and will probably require the next big game to boost sales of the console.

I am very curious how large of a shipment is being released.  500K, 1 Million, 2 Million? If the US gets another 2 Million sold within a month or so that would be a huge pickup for the system...hell if they only sell 1 Million in a month it would still be a huge pickup, and a will create a huge boost in launch title sales as well.  And that is just the US.  I wonder if Japan or Europe is about to get another shipment available?

While I agree that this will indeed be a test to see if the demand for the Wii is still after the holiday the rush I think the Wii is still the most sought after console.

Based on my personal experience (as well as S_B's and many of the stories posted here and in other websites), people are still hunting for Wiis, constantly calling stores every single day. Hell, around here PS3s were finally in stock during the holiday season (and there was still a shopping madness as S_B was able to experience first hand) and they were barely being sold, while people were still waiting and looking around for a Wii.

So yeah, its true that this Sunday will be a test of the Wii's appeal, but don't be too surprised if all consoles are sold in an hour or two.

I'm still hunting for a wii and will get one on sunday. Target is a waste of time since everyone known about their shipment since last week so I'm trying Circuit city and BestBuy. Circuit city is handing out Wii-ticket a hour before the store opens(10am) and if that fails, BestBuy is getting minimum of 20 wii per store and open at 11am. Wish Me luck...

Damn both Circuit City and Best Buy ran out

So here the story. By the time I got to Circuit City they're were out of ticket, so I drove off to Best Buy. There I was so close to getting a wii. I was right behind that last one who got a wii. So quickly ran off to a near by EB and which had sold out as soon as they open...

Defeated I headed off to KFC for some food on the way I passed a gamestop and decide to give it a try. I head to the guy work there and ask if they had any left. As I thought, he said yes, so I stared to leave. One double take later, and now I'm sitting at home with a Wii!!11one one

Just got one this morning for my friend. GameStop had 20, I was pretty surprised. Second in line at 8:30. All 20 gone just as the store opened.

Dang the quickness that which the Wiis are still selling out is stunning. I don't recall a system EVER that still has this much demand even after Christmas. Xbox 360 was hard to find but that seemed more related to lack of units than strong demand.

This relaunch has to be strong and be a signpost of long, sustained Wii demand from casuals and nongamers for Nintendo to soar clear of the hurdle that the GC faced with its sudden numbers drop off due to stalled demand after launch. Hopefully, the one month February slump won't be too bad in North America. I know Japan's getting Fire Emblem in February, so they're good over there. Right now, Nintendo needs to hope the momentum holds until March when the next wave of traditional games arrive, and Sonic and other assorted games launch.

I asked at GameStop last night and they said they would have them but didn't say how many. I was the only one there at 5AM, but I was soon joined by others and by the time the store opened there were about 40 for the 20 the store had. I also took advantage of the the $50 trade in of a Gamecube towards a Wii. I kept the wavebirds but gave them a second wired controller for another $7 off.
