So is Zelda:TP GC in short supply?
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:15:10 AM »
'Cuz I was planning on getting both copies to begin with, but was hoping I could wait it out and maybe get a used copy.

Seems like word on the 'net is that it had a limited run.  I realize pre-orders stopped a while ago, but I'm still curious at this point.

If anyone can let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Seems online stores are out of it.  The rumour is that it's going to be hard to find.  Which I think is bullsh!t since Nintendo's whole plan worked and TP sold insanely well for the Wii.  Just give those of us who want it the version we want.  Hell it's not like I even CAN buy a Wii for it anyway since they're sold out everywhere.  Hopefully they just underestimated demand and this isn't all part of a grand plan to sell more Wiis.

I have it on my Christmas list and will be heavily hinting towards my family that they go to the store tomorrow.

Circuit City put it in their ad this week so it's hard to imagine it's Phoenix Wright before the second shipment scarce.

I just bought the Gamecube version at Best Buy and there were quite a few other copies so the short supply rumors are false.

When I went to Gamestop they said preorders only today.
The guy was giving them out on a first come first serve basis.
He told me to stay in the store and wait.  He kinda indicticated that
he wasn't sure how long his supply would last.

I really don't know if Nintendo is doing a preorder only run, but nothing
would surprise me.

Does anyone find it ironic that Nintendo did the DQ9 announcement on the day Zelda was released?

It's not a preorder only, I walked into Best Buy and picked up a copy and that was it.  There was about seven other copies just sitting there on the shelf as well, ready for anyone to pick them up.

Well I didn't take chances and picked up a $38 copy at Circuit City.

Now to debate on whether to play it or wait for component cables for my Wii version.

Picked up mine yesterday at Gamestop with a reeeeaaally old preorder receipt. I think they were only doing preorders.

BTW, has anyone seen any reviews of the GC version? I'm just curious to see how people are comparing it to the Wii one.

My local Circuit City had them, but only after checking with the clerk and only after they checked against outstanding rainchecks (I thought they didn't do that with video games...)

FWIW, I compaired the back of the Wii and the GCN version... and the screen shots are essentially the same shots mirrored (which for those who don't know... the Wii is a mirrored version of the GCN game)  Oddly enough, the artwork is the same for both versions (so it shows a lefty link on the Wii artwork).  There's your lame fact for the day.

Speaking of really old pre-orders.... a friend of mine had this thing reserved in full since sometime around 4 swords release (May 2004 probably).  I'd be curious to see how he faired when trying to go pick it up

Someone at the CAG forums - I think Dr Mario Kart - still has a pre-order ticket for Duke Nukem Forever.  I think it was dated 1999 or something.

I only wish I was kidding.  He had a picture of it up and everything.

OMG!!!111 TEH CUBE VERSHUN IS TEH REEL ZELDA!!11@@

Anyway I saw copies at Best Buy today but they weren't with the Cube games.  There was a locked cage trolley dealie with games in it and it had about ten or so copies in it.  It looked like those were games that the staff still had to put price tags on and put on the shelf.  Why do I always ask for the games I want the most for Christmas?  It seems my favourite game of the year always comes out in the last few months so I always put it on my list and have to wait to see IF someone got it for me instead of just buying it myself and enjoying it ASAP.

Wow.  Just wow.

Of course, being the Nintendo and Zelda Whore that I am (I have a gold Game Boy Camera! Whoo!), I had to have both copies.  As with the OP, I'd planned to get the GCN Zelda, used, on the cheap, down the road.

Well, between all the internet rumors of the GCN Version being hard to find and the fact that my itty bitty Wal*Mart sold out of 15 or so copies in one day (which just happened to be my day off), I decided now was the time to get me a copy. (Also, the fact that Circuit City has it on sale for $38 helps).  So, I get on the horn and start calling.

Every Wal*Mart within an hour's drive is sold out.

Pamida (about 30 mins away) is sold out.

Circuit City (hour away) is sold out.

GameCrazy (hour away) is sold out.

All three EBGames (hour away) are sold out.

Toys R Us (hour away) is sold out.

Best Buy (who I typically dislike)...  I call them, wait on hold forever... call back again....  someone finally picks up.  He looks in the computer it says they have a "sizeable quantity", but he wants to check the shelf just to make certian.  He comes back and says there aren't any on the shelf and he's going to look in the back, if I don't mind holding (of course not!).  About five mins later, he comes back: "Yeah, we have plenty".  So I explain to him that I'm about an hour's drive away and ask if he can hold me a copy.  He's all "About an hour?  Naw, we've got plenty... you'll be fine."  So I was all whiney "Are you suuuuuuuure there will be one when I get there?"  "Yeah...".

So I speed over to Evansville (the town that's an hour away), but first I stop by Circuit City to grab an ad so I don't have any issues trying to price match.  Then I fly over to Best Buy and sprint back to their video games... three copies left.    Now, I don't know what this guy's idea of "plenty" was, but dang... either they sold a lot, fast, or he's crazy.  Anywhoo, I grab a copy (and while I'm looking around, someone else grabs a copy as well)...

Also, check recent eBay auctions... it's selling from $60- ~$100.

It *is* hard to find right now.  In fact, I don't think any other major GameCube game was this hard to find at launch... It all depends on if Nintendo restocks...

Dude, the ebay auctions right now are hilarious.  All these people have Buy it Now prices of $75 - $100, but the copies that actually have bids are between $40 - $60.  Nice try jerks.

Reading UncleBob's story makes me REALLY hope my family has not f*cked up getting this for me for Christmas.  That sounds harsh but I serious am concerned that if I don't get it for Christmas I have no chance in hell of picking this up on my own afterwards.  Every day that goes by is a lost opportunity for me to buy this game but I'm handcuffed by having put it on my Christmas list.  ARRGH!

Buy it now and keep it sealed so you can return it in case you get it for X-mas.  Or--better yet--buy it now, start playing immediately, and then return the copy you get for X-mas (assuming you get a copy).

Anyone willing to place any bets that Ian Sane's family ends up getting him the Wii version of Twilight Princess for Christmas?

Ian, just buy it yourself, and don't open it and save your receipt. Then, if they DO get it for you, you can just return it. If not, you're golden anyways.

Back-up plans FTW!

Only if my Dad got it.  He's the master of accidently buying light mayonaise and diet pop.  For videogames no matter who is actually buying the gift either myself or my brother is sent to actually get it from the store since we consistently know what they hell we're doing.

If Ian gets the Wii version, someone needs to find his address and mail his parents the 80000 pages or so of ranting he's done about it.
