Topic: New Far Cry video up at IGN

The graphics definitely look pretty lame to me.  Some stuff looks okay, but some things barely look textured at all to me.  Graphics asside, though, it looks like it might be a fun shooter.  It looks like it might be a little more fast-paced and action-oriented than the calculating PC version, though that might just be the video focusing on action sequences.  Looks like you can set people on fire with grenades!  That's almost as good as having a flamethrower.

I thought the graphics looked pretty good. The character models looked a little plain, but otherwise it looked comparable to the PC version, at least from that low-res video clip.

Edit: Oh, and I think that was Molotov Cocktail he was throwing, not a grenade.

That is disappointing to me. I loved the calculated nature of the PC game. Ducking through the brush, sneaking up on your enemies, a whole world as your playground. It was unique and it is the main reason why I love the game so much on the PC. I'll be skipping this one for the Wii.

I hear that the trailer you just watched is from a much earlier build that what they are actually working on now, and the new build looks better and smoother. I hope its true, because that looked more like a 2nd gen GC game than a 1st gen Wii game.

Yeah I much prefer those N64-type 3 game launches.

Can people just calm down, or shut up?  It looks okay.  It's an earlier build first off.  Secondly, you guys don't care about graphics, remember?  Thirdly, Red Steel looked like garbage, and now looks pretty nice.

I dont think it looks great, but it looks fun.  And for someone who never played Far Cry on the PC, I'm looking forward to it.  Also, Omen, the Red Steel example doesn't really hold water.  When we first saw Red Steel, the dev. team had plenty of time to clean it up.  The first we've seen of Far Cry was earlier this week, and the game is supposed to ship in 2 weeks.  Chances are, the game has already gone gold.  Also, why would they release a video based on an old build of the game?

It could be that the video was put together months ago but had an embargo placed against it by Nintendo dictating when they could release it to the media outlets.

I really hope he is right, because that framerate is unacceptable for something so blah visually. When I first seen the screens for the game I was willing to accept them if the game ran silky smooth but if this trailer is indicitive of the final product, shame on Ubisoft.

Graphics should already be "serviceable" at this age.  Bad framerates do not comply with that.

Showing old, non-representative footage (not to mention bad footage) so late in the game is moronic.  Either go ahead and just release up-to-date screenshots, or make a brand new trailer.  And it's IGN's responsibility to cite the stage of the game's development the trailer footage represents.  Fail and fail.

Yeah, I could live with the "meh" visuals as long as the framerate were steady, but the framerate in the video was completely unacceptable...I sure HOPE that wasn't the final build...
