I gave it a second try recently and I would like to recommend the training if you have the time to kill (no one else waiting to play).  It really helps.

True, but it's not exactly fair to compare a handheld game to a home console.

Ian's been saying this for months, but no one listens.
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

Just checked several stores in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  No Wii Kiosks, but the Target store almost had a PS3 kiosk up and running.

kiosk is up in Arlington, VA. The game is fun, but I'm not sure I'd drop 50$ on it. I actually had more fun just dinking around with the Wii menu and settings -- the remote truly feels great and, well, revolutionary. Just being able to see the cursor mimic hand position and rotation was amazing to me.
As far as Excitetruck goes, it reminds me of an off-road fzero. It's fast, there are lots of obstacles, and some pretty extensive airtime from jumps. The visuals were OK. They certainly weren't sub GC quality, but they didn't look any better than a nice Xbox game. the textures were sharp, the water reflections were better than on the GC, the cars had relatime reflections on them, and there was plenty of foliage and small details like coconuts falling off trees when hit. The only ugly thing about the game is its level of detail scaling. trees and foliage have some nasty popup, and there were times where the terrain looked absolutely horrible. For instance, when taking a large jump on the Fiji stage, the shoreline was comprised of a couple of right angles as opposed to a smooth curve, or even rough, curve. You can see this happening on the "direct feed montage" video at IGN. Hell, you can even see it in the thumbnail for the video!

Wait a minute.  Tom Chick?  I think he's the editor of Computer Games Magazine.  Good mag.  I can only compare it to PC Gamer, but Computer Games is definitely the more cerebral of the two.

Oh yeah, just in case anyone wanted to know, playing music off the SD card is implemented PERFECTLY...(and the game looks just fine in composite)

I'm not planning on getting the Wii for a while, but I wanted to try it, so I went to the EBgames in my local mall. So I ask to borrow the remote.

"Sorry, the batteries are out of power"

So I played some Off-road Truck game on the PS3 instead.  I turned the Motion Sensing on, and pretended I was playing Excite Truck.  The game even had overheating, speed boosts, crashes, and all of that stuff.

Half the playable consoles I see at stores are unplayable.  The Wii demo units may do even worse...

My Gamestop got the kiosk in the day after I bought my Wii.  I play it on my brakes anyway and I notice that it draws a crowd.  The typical mall rats gather around me playing and I have even heard them make comments about it being better then the ps3.  They were talking about the systems and it went something like "Then how come everyone is gathered around watching him play when no one is even on the ps3 over there."
