I don't see how they could do it without being ridiculously awkward, and even if they could they'd certainly charge more than $10 for it.

I doubt it. Nintendo charged $20 for M+ and packaged them with games, yet that didn't really catch on like they though it would. Yeah, there was the issue with games that actually support it, but Nintendo would do absolutely everything in their power to make it work this time. That would mean packaging it with a AAA title and selling it cheap. If they want 3rd party support for analogue stick add-on, they gotta move those units.

The second analog slider included in a revision could work. It just requires developers to program 2 control methods (one for 3DS, another for 3DS+) which some already do on other hardware, namely the Wii. Some developers have multiple control options without different controller options such as Resident Evil 5. Speaking of, The Mercenaries 3D would play much better with that other slider for those wondering what games would benefit from it. Also, in-game camera.

Adding a second slider isn't completely out of the question. DSi included 2 camera, an SD card slot, more RAM, faster processors, and larger screens. Granted, few developers took advantage of all of that but there's precedence for adding functionality. Will Nintendo do it? Perhaps but I'd personally bet against it. I don't think a second slider accessory is even possible.

The biggest problem would be how pissed off current 3DS owners would be should a revision fix one of the orignal's glaring omissions, not to mention the possibility of fixing ALL of them such as battery life. Does Nintendo try to compensate them again? I had always planned on buying a revision so I wouldn't be upset at all. The free games and sudden price drop just means my brother gets a hand-me-down 3DS once I transfer the downloaded games over.

I look at this as the same sort of thing as Motion Plus which started out as an addon module which could be purchased separately or came bundled with certain games but then later was integrated into the controller by default. I think that's how its going to be with this thing too. It will probably cost about $20 to buy it separately, and there will be certain games which will come bundled with it. Hell, it will probably come bundled with the 3DS SKU itself...

Then as soon as Nintendo makes the first revision of the 3DS it will be integrated into it by default, just like how Motion Plus was integrated into the Wiimote Plus by default. This way it will become a new standard, and at the same time those who bought the original 3DS model won't be screwed because they can just get the addon module and they'll be good to go.

So seeing how this same company (Nintendo) has already done basically the same thing with Motion Plus I'm going to chalk this rumor up as very plausible. I'm not going to say its probable, but its certainly plausible.

per second slide pad: HYPOTHETICALLY

Let's say Nintendo does figure out a way to implement a second analog that satisfies the early adopters and future purchasers of the system.  Is anyone really trying to argue that the 3ds is performing poorly because of lack of analog input? no really like seriously?

Motion+ is a controller not the whole system.  Also  I would still like an answer of HOW an attachment could even connect.  The only answer I can thing of would be making it wireless, insanely draining the 3ds battery and requiring a battery/charger for this thing.

I heard some people saying it could connect wirelessly to the IR port. I don't think it would take that much battery.

If the Audio port has Mic capability, like most Cellphones now, you could even do it that way. (A hack from back in the day in computing.)  The IR port would be the most reasonable since it could do higher data rates but any of those would be so awkward to get from where the stick would have to be to the input.

Can somebody please remind me how things went when Sony introduced the Dual Analogue controller for the PS1? I can't remember if all the games released after that still supported the original digital controller, or if the new controller became mandatory. It's not a perfect analogy to the rumored second pad, but something like this has been done successfully before.

So analogue control was just optional until then after all? That's what I remembered, but I wasn't sure. Thank you!

The thing about adding another analog stick is it would screw all the people who already invested in a 3DS... arguably even worse than the $250 price and price drop. That said one way they could do it is have like a recall thing where they get current 3DS users to send their system to Nintendo and they will ship them a dual stick 3DS in return or a voucher so they can pick one up in stores free of charge.

it will only screw the small number of people who bought it, remember sales are lower than expected.

There is no need for a second joystick anyhow, it has a joystick and a touch screen, which is more than what ds had for metroid prime hunters which had decent first person controls. Just because Wii u has a second joystick doesnt mean that, that will add a ridiculous amount more on functionality. Dual analog is a relic of the past, before controllers had gyros and touch screens, developers may still use Dual analog if they prefer, but i dont see a problem with having dual analog just being one control option. Nintendo is knowledgeable that developers just dont want to change their control scheme, so they've pulled off a controller that does everything. The 3ds is more than capable of handling all Wii u control needs just in a different way, that is if you can connect to the internet and 3ds at the same time...

Another rumor from 01net.
Quote
According to 01net Nintendo took an unpublished real-time strategy game, proposed to Nintendo by the game's creators years before Pikmin's development, and Nintendo turned it into Pikmin and fabricated the commonly-heard story about Shigeru Miyamoto thinking of the idea while gardening.

The site also claims that a number of ideas were pitched for "Mario 128", which would eventually become Super Mario Galaxy, but they were all rejected. Nintendo then allegedly took a prototype it bought from another company years before and turned it into Super Mario Galaxy.

01net's confidential informer also claims that Nintendo is worried about its future and is aware that they need new franchises and IPs in order to keep going. According to the source Nintendo actually has a "treasure trove" of ideas that it could hand to young developers, both internal and external, for them to develop into new games.

Um, With how many game Ideas Nintendo gets I could probably find something similar enough if I digged but, I really doubt that was the source of Pikmin.  It has Miyamoto all over it and its different enough it would need a champion to get made at Nintendo initially.

The site also claims that a number of ideas were pitched for "Mario 128", which would eventually become Super Mario Galaxy I be surprised to find out otherwise, but they were all rejected Considering the game wasn't made.  That was sort of assumed. Nintendo then allegedly took a prototype it bought from another company years before and turned it into Super Mario Galaxy. So what?  They bought it.  That means, if they did the contract right, they have the full rights to it and can make it whatever they want.  Nintendo doesn't develop all its own code. I know that may shock some of you and I'll make sure to give you your Dino when you go to bed but, that's how the game works.  You be a fool to think you can code everything by yourself in the most efficient manner or would want to.

01net's confidential informer also claims that Nintendo is worried about its future and is aware that they need new franchises and IPs in order to keep going. My 3 year Old could have told you that. According to the source Nintendo actually has a "treasure trove" of ideas that it could hand to young developers, both internal and external, for them to develop into new games. When you been doing this as long as Nintendo I'm sure a lot of ideas have gotten put on the Back Burner or didn't fit the time they were proposed.  Yet again, no surprise.

Yes, every rumor is B.S. just like those rumors a few months back about the Wii U..... oh, wait.

But seriously, yes, some rumors really are B.S. but not every single one is. I see a lot of people on here dismissing every single rumor as B.S. and not giving any of them any consideration at all. Surely not every single one is B.S. right? At least some of them will probably prove true.

At this point, we're approaching the "blind squirrel stumbling on a nut" stage. The only other thing they've apparently got right is an alleged RAM reduction in the Vita... that got reversed after developer pressure.

I think a lot of people refuse to believe the rumors just because they don't want them to be true, not necessarily because they don't think its possible. They just don't want to admit that it could be possible. Like that rumor about the analog slider addon for the 3DS. Alot of people don't want that to be true either because they already bought a 3DS or because they don't like Dual Analog controls period. So they don't want it to be true, and I think that clouds their judgement and makes them refuse to accept the possibility that it could be real.
