Kojima working on Iccarus?
« on: November 03, 2005, 12:45:38 PM »
Apparently in the new EGM's rumor section it says,

"Hideo Kojima is a BIG fan of the device (the Rev. controller). So it shouldn't come as a surprise that the man behind the 'Metal Gear Solid' series is one of the first third-party developers working on Revolution software. What exactly, I'm not entirely sure, but over the last couple of years, Nintendo has been using outside studios to remake some of its classic franchises. Imagine if Kojima were working on a Nintendo series like...well, what do you know? I'm out of time. See you next month!"

I don't have the new issue of EGM; I hope this is not fake.

Oh man... most misleading topic title... ever! First, we don't even know if he is working on a brand new concept or remaking something that Nintendo already has. Second, if he was working on a old Nintendo franchise, why would the assumption be that it would have to Icarus?

Anyway the whole thing is just a rumor, and the fact that people can't back up that someone else is saying that it's a rumor takes the whole thing to the next level. Can anyone confirm if EGM actually stated this?

Yes, they did, but EGM's rumours have been more wrong than right as of late...

I don't like that whenever someone talks about Kid Icarus coming back, they talk about it as being this gothic mature game.  Kid Icarus isn't like that.  It's not cheery like Kirby but I think a super dark game wouldn't fit it either.  I think it would fit something like the N64 Zelda where the scary stuff is scary looking but the game still has more of a cartoony look to it.

I don't want Kid Icarus to be revived as a brand name slapped onto an otherwise unrelated game.  If it gets revived I want it to be true to original.  I don't want any old mythology angel game called "Icarus".

I kind of agree that Icarus shouldn't be a blood and guts mature title..but seriously, being set in mythology lends itself pretty wel to having soem bad ass areas and enemies.  I don't think it should be like God Of War...but maybe close in graphical style to the Prince Of Persia games.  I wouldn't even mind if they went totally fantasy style...kind of Rygar meets the goth settings of Castlevania.

It needs to keep the tone of the first, so perhaps fantasy is the way to go...

I believe they should go with super deformed characters, my drawings were cartoonish, but they were also dark.  I believe the game can be given a mature edge without super realistic character models.

If Kojima really is doing a game I doubt it will be family friendly.

No matter who does an Icarus game it should be focused on using the remote to fly.

Nah, Icarus is certainly not Kojima's style. As much as I loved the NES and Gameboy versions of the game I have a hard time seeing a new version of the game on the Rev (DS seems more likely to me, for whatever reason).
Who says that the existing franchise has to be a throwback to the classic NES era?  Perhaps Kojima has something to do with an Eternal Darkness sequel?  I believe Nintendo owns the rights to the game, and regardless, Silicon Knights hasn't been bought out by the competition and is free to develop for whomever.  Plus, the three have collaborated in the past.

Or maybe he's just making another crappy Metal Gear spinoff.

Yeah, does Nintendo own ED? It says (c) 2002 Nintendo on the bottom of the screen...I'd be disappointed - I don't want anyone besides SK touching it.

Anyways, EGM sucks, rumors are fake, and im leaving.

No way, my sources are saying that it's going to be a modern, mature (read: BLOODY), cinematic update of Baloon Fight.

I heard it was going to be a different one along the same vein:

Ice Climbers!  It turns out that Popo murdered Nana during their last trip because he was having some strange affair.  You play Popo and try to escape the world by climbing by yourself away from the evidence, but as you get further up the mountain and the air gets thinner you start to go crazy and you think that Nana is haunting you up there.  You fight off the imaginary Nana ghost and other figments of your imagination while trying to make it to the summit!

1up...Merrick slaps Mark Rein in the nutts and confirms Kojima's on board

"Epic builds middleware, they're very technically savvy guys, but he doesn't have a Revolution controller, he doesn't have a dev kit, he's talking about something he knows nothing about," says Merrick. "So if he'd like to get a dev kit and really dig into it, then I'd be interested to hear what he has to say."

''On more exciting fronts, Merrick confirms Metal Gear Solid designer Hideo Kojima is working on a Revolution title, in addition to stating a number of third parties are hard at work on games for the machine. Though Merrick claims those announcements could come at any time, expect most companies to time their Revolution unveilings with Nintendo sometime next year. There shouldn't be any surprises before the end of 2005.''

wikipedia on Kojima and Revolution

"Konami may be in the process of developing two projects for Revolution."

"According to Game Informer, Hideo Kojima is developing a Revolution game with the team from Kojima Productions that developed Metal Gear Acid."

Another source says, "Game Informer has confirmed that Kojima is indeed making a new, most likely non-Metal Gear, game for Nintendo's Revolution."

Well, I think he said (at TGS) that they would be making Disney Soccer for the Revolution as a "flagship" title. So don't get your hopes up.

I f*cking HATE how konami treats Nintendo. Disney Sports? Who the F#@$ buys Disney Sports? Who the F#@* buys Disney games in general? Just cause people say the GC is for kids, they have to go and take it seriously.

Well, I geuss if you were going to make those games (despite the lack of an audience), you best put it on the GC cause for DAMN sure noone is going to buy on the PS2, not to mention the Xbox.

Kojima is a great developer and it would be a damn shame if Disney sports is the only thing he brings to the table.

When I posted the images it didn't didn't distort the screen so I assumed it wouldn't be a problem for anyone.

If Konami makes Disney games for Revolution they can expect a hail of scat.
