"DS" in DS titles?

Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits
CastleVania: Dawn of Sorrow
Snowboard Kids

Okay, the Snowboard KiDS is a joke; it's not like they can help it.  And Dawn of Sorrow is a direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow, so at least they made it make sense.  But Drill Spirits?

I guess they want to avoid the inevitable "DS" suffix.  Yet they might still want to refer to it for some reason...

When you consider all the Nintendo prefixes and suffixes, it's scary that "Super Mario 64 DS" is only one word different from "Super Advance 64 DS", which would be the most loaded yet most meaningless title.  (Other than the fact that it would probably be a 3D game on the DS.)

Do you think having a recognizeable suffix helps, or does it enforce the misconception that the same games are just being reimagined for each console/handheld?

So far, I have found it qute, personally. I imagone game developers sitting around at lunch, trying to think up a cool two word subtitle that uses "D" and "S" =D

I'll add a couple more to your list:

Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Lunar: Dragon Song

Not to mention all the "touching" words associated (moreso in Japan)

Touch, Scratch, Rub, Feel, Lick etc

I just noticed this one today, "World Championship Poker: Deluxe Series"
It just makes some of these games sound gimmicky, which they aren't necissarrily (though I think some of them are sort of).

Using a "DS" related name is still better than using "DS" outright or adding "Super", "64" or "Advance" to the title.  I imagine it's pretty annoying to come up with subtitles for games instead of just numbering the series.  Having a DS initial template would make it easier to come up with a name so why not do it?  At least this way the games have names that make sense outside of the context of the system.  Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is pure gibberish.  The title makes no sense without any context.  Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrows however sounds very normal like the game could be on any system.

Not when you have a subtitle that is absolute nonsense. Check this out.

Digging Strike. That would imply that Dig Dug has refused to dig anymore until his demands are made.

Reporter: So, what are you doing with that sign out side of your work place?
Dig Dug: I'm on a digging strike! I'm protesting for the Digging Union to give us more health benefits. And stuff.

I dunno, but I'd rather have Dig Dug DS than a name that makes no sense. What would you name this game? Dig Dug Dirt Shoveling! Drill Spirits? Or Digging Stuff!

EDIT: Wait a second! Dig Dug: Digging Spree! I actually like that name. I think it's way better than Digging Strike. Man, I should be working at these game companies.

I really don't have anything to put here right now.

There's a Japanese game with Dual Sympathy in the subtitle.  I can't seem to figure out the main title, but it's on NCL's schedule.
