What was the best E3 ever?
« on: May 09, 2004, 08:50:57 AM »
In my opinion, its the 2001 E3. Almost ALL of the games were a suprise, and I still remember my jaw dropping and the excitement going through me when I saw the first pics for Blue Storm, Luigis Mansion, and especially Rogue Leader... Ah, it almost brings a tear to my eye.

I've only been to the 2002 and 2003 shows and I'd have to say the 2002 show was MUCH better. Although I think this year will be even better.

I have a feeling this will the best in quite some time.  Back in 2002 when they showed off SMS, MP, and WW they said it was their best e3 lineup ever.  I believe this will be their best.  We have at least rumors that sequels to those will be shown.  We will finally get to see and play all the awesome 3rd party titles.  And they are finally showing off the DS to the world.  I am really inpressed to see how well they are keeping leaks from getting out as compared to last year when everything was known.
Pietriots, we roll out to get the lol out.

Well when you're like me and have never been to E3 a great E3 has to have a lot of brand new games debuted.  E3 2002 was probably great for someone who went there but for those of us sitting at home having Mario, Zelda, and Metroid playable isn't as big of a deal.  All we can do is see the game and we already got to see those games.  This year's looks like it will be great because we haven't really seen whatever the big games for this year are going to be.

To me though the best E3 was 1996.  That's the year the N64 made it's playable debut and it was the first time a lot of the early N64 games were shown.  How will they ever top the impact of Super Mario 64?  They can't because they'll never have that huge jump from 2D to 3D again.  Every N64 game that was shown that year looked like a killer app.  Since we're more used to 3D games now nothing regarding the Cube will have the same "wow" factor.

I actually found E3 2001 to be pretty disappointing.  I wanted to see a new Mario game and instead I got Luigi's Mansion.  The Cube launch lineup was pretty average and that's all that was shown at E3 2001.  However that year did have Pikmin which almost made up for it.  I'm not saying that showing was bad but it didn't come close to delivering what I expected.  I expected to see an amazing lineup that would allow Nintendo to recover from the N64.

My view is the same exact as Ian Sane's.  E3 1996 was my favorite by far, my friend even made a scrapbook that included every screenshot for the N64 games shown on an old ass printer, printed at the best quality, needless to say he went through many print cartridges and we looked at the scrapbook up until he rented an import N64 with Super Mario 64 which almost got destroyed but I caught it on it's way to a 10 foot fall (I wouldn't let that happen now would I) hehe but anyways after the week was up we went back to the scrapbook.
