Burnout
« on: January 24, 2004, 08:56:11 AM »
I was at Best Buy the other day, and saw Burnout for $15, so I decided to pick it up, and give it a try.  I figured it would probably be mediocre, but I was wrong.  I didnt realize gem graced the Cube.  Its fast and furious, seriously.  It kinda reminds me of Ridge Racer 64, being that drifting is a major part of the game, although the drifting in Burnout is much more realistic than RR64 was.  Even the games visuals are nice, and runs at a silky smooth framerate.  I already ordered Burnout 2, while reading the review at IGN, I noticed I could buy it for $20, so I figured I might as well.  Being that good car racers are lacking on Gamecube, the Burnout series is very refreshing.

You're going to love Burnout 2- in my opinion it's superior to the original in every way possible. One of its best features is the Crash Mode which provides endless hours of fun. You can imagine my dismay when Acclaim cancelled their Gamecube support, and subsequent joy when EA became Criterion's new publisher.

I only gave Burnout a rental, but I loved it.  Burnout 2 had already been announced, so I decided to buy that.  But as it was released, I had so many other great games to buy so it fell off my radar.  Now when I start thinking about buying it, Burnout 3 shows up.....I guess i'l just wait....*sigh*
Bah.

Burnout 2 is pretty much the best racing game I've ever played. It's not a boring hardcore simulation-a-thon, which is nice. The crashes are more detailed than games like Destruction Derby or Demolition Racer which focus everything on crashing. It's just a very fun game all round. The music is awesome, too. <3

I just got Burnout 2 in the mail yesterday, and its also a very good game.  Drifting is quite as out of the world as before, you could take some crazy ass turns in Burnout by drifting, but in Burnout 2, its a bit more realistic.  The whole physics engine feels a bit more like a sim than the first one.  Not saying it plays like a sim, but takes a step or two in that direction from the first one.  Overall, I like both Burnout games very much, and from what I have scene, is the best car racing series on Cube.  What do you know, not all muti-platform games suck.

Can anyone confirm Burnout3 is coming to GC?  Some stupid Cube-europe staffer{term used very lightly} said its only for PS2 and XBOX since EA took over publishing duties.

I don't think there's been any solid info either way, but there's a better chance now that it's in EA's hands.

I've heard EA has gone as far as to have one of their own studios making Burnout 3- can they legally take Burnout away from Criterion, considering EA didn't actually buy Criterion, they're just their publisher? I remember Crystal Dynamics getting into a very sticky legal wicket when they took the Legacy of Kain series away from Silicon Knights.

I remember reading that EA now own the Burnout license, thus maybe why one of their own studios is developing Burnout 3.

I could be wrong.  Anyone know?

Played this at a friends house today, sorry but i hated it.  I would rather play a game like gran turismo anyday.  There are no licensed vehicles, upgrades anything in this game.  I dunno maybe i just didnt get into it enough.

Hehe, I'm the exact opposite... I can't think of a better way to get to sleep than playing Gran Turismo.

Not good. EA released some details on Burnout 3 and have only commented on a PS2 and XBox version- the Gamecube version was not mentioned at all.
