IGN has an interview with Satoru Iwata, President of NCL, and he has some things to tell us:

1) The pricecut of the GCN at one time helped Nintendo surpass the sales of Sony´s PS2 console and the overall sales are going as intended. But they´re having a hard time reading the Japanese market! Still, the recentmost sales of the GCN and it´s software shows it is far from a "dead platform".

2) The NDS is going to help them increase their customebase (best hope people will like it!)

and here comes the best part of that interview -

3) they have started to study customer responses on the internet!!!!! This means, that what we are talking about right here on Planetgamecube Forums could be seen by Nintendo, and taken note of! So, why don´t we all just remember that and start FLOODING this forum with responses to GCN games!

If PGC Forum directors read this, I would encourage them to create a new section of these forums titled: "Future games and the way we want them" or something like that! A place where all kinds of people can breathe freely, while they share their thoughts on how a recently announced game should be! Much like the topic I have posted about a realistic Zelda! Then Nintendo can just jump over there and read all our innermost thoughts!

Here is the link anyway: http://cube.ign.com/articles/492/492280p1.html

Eh, we've known that they've done that for ages.  Denis Dyack posts here on rare occasions, and Giles Goddard randomly answered questions about Doshin the Giant while he was still working on it.

I remember those posts, was a neat thing.  That is a reason these forums are so tight on the rules.

=O  He does?  And why didn't anybody tell me that?!  I LOVE DENIS.  I want to marry him. <3

Yeah......I kinda always figured SOMEBODY important must be browsing these forums. And then they might look at me and say, "That KnowsNothing....he's got alot of spunk.  We like spunk.  Welcome to the team." and they'll hand me a nice fresh $10000000 bill.

Denis hasn't posted in a really long time, but sometimes you see his name pop up on the logged in users list. Back when I used to post at IGN he'd randomly pop in threads about Eternal Darkness or Silicon Knights in general and comment on some things. I wish all developers were like Denis- it's quite obvious that for most of them money has eclipsed enjoyment as the primary reason for making games, and they've losted touch with the fans, which is probably why a lot of games suck nowadays. At least Denis an Silicon Knights still know why they got into this business in the first place, and I think that it shows through in the quality of their games.

They might post more if this site was so slow in terms of postings. It should pick up just before E3.

Oh god, i sure hope Nintendo don't listen to everyone on the internet, because there are some (everyone except me) idiots who have no idea what they want. OMG ONLINE GAMING, WASTE MONEY ON THIS, MAKE THIS GAME LEI K THIS LOL DBZ CAPCOM NAMCO SEGA. Eh, as long as their just "studying" peoples responses, it's ok. I might go play Starfox now. (OMG WINK LOL)

Hey, what about me?  ;_____;

But as I've said in the past, Ninty should definitely stay away from consumer opinion as much as possible...The casual gamer has no idea what makes a good game, so just leave the creativity to the developers okthxbye...

Oh, and Bill <3

It's not just casual gamers who have no idea what makes a good game.. it's anyone who isn't a games developer, including most "experts" on these forums. I think it's obvious that people like this "WHY ISNT LINK IN MARIO KART LOL THESE FORUMS SUCK IM LEAVING FOREVER" will get ignored.

There are positives though, of course, and just studying what people say on a forum can't do any damage. It's all good, Nintendo aren't stupid.

Mario, you can't ignore the people that do have good ideas, or legitimate concerns. Perhaps not new to the developers, no, but there all the same.

It's too much work to weed out the very, VERY few good ideas from the legions of bad ones...

I'd guess SK are too tied up in MGS right now, if I got the date right it's currently crunch-time there (that means 22 hour days, for those who don't know). There is no time for fooling around on message boards during crunch-time.

Speaking of which, Denis posted on IGN's boards a sort of quick FAQ about MGS yesterday.

Still it's cool to know that our babbling hasn't completely fallen on deaf ears...

the ratio between OMG A TOWL DAMANAGED MY CUBE I HATE NINTENDO FOR EVER that was some lollin' times and actual decent ideas / concerns is stacked heavily on the OMG WTF HOW DO I POST POLL? end of things though. *goes on a lollin' trip though the locked topics*

My point was good ideas do still come out of fans, albeit rarely, and I admire developers like Denis Dyack that keep in touch with them.

Denis was on here not more than a month or two ago, atleast that was the last time mouse told me he saw him.  Obviously he will read a little, not a lot, and obviously most of that is nothing really too much to think about.  Occasionally there is probablly something that he might atleast give a second look, but then again, I'm neither a developer, nor Denis.
