Heh, to recommend a few....

Any Squaresoft made game (Final Fantasy, Super MArio RPG)
FZero
Zelda LTTP
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Um.... Donkey Kong Triliogy

Can't think of any more except for maybe the Megaman series.

Have fun!

Ian Sane: I plan to get the games off Ebay or friends. I realize some are VERY expensive on Ebay, especially Chrono Trigger, but that's what Christmas money is for . And I might eventually get LttP and the Mario games, but only after I buy ones I haven't played before.

Get Shadowrun.  Its a very unique game, especially for how old it is.

I just think i should add that this year  two of the video games i  asked my parents for for Christams were Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 3/6. I think they don't like me anymore

Star Fox was a technical wonder for it's time for the SNES anyway

thanx for backin` me up

design was sadly traded off in the N64 version

I really wasn't fond of the N64 version either, it did seem to lose its uniqueness.

Stunt Race FX ........ uses the Super FX chip used in Star Fox

can anyone name the third game to use the FX chip in a StarFoxish style game?.......give up, I think it was called Vortecx, I liked the game but it was hella hard. The game revolved around a Mech that had (that I know of) 5 modes. Basic walk mode; hover walk mode (used in space); jet mode; buggy mode; and lastly defence mode (you transform into a compact, small & slow vehicle with a nova type attack like SF but without the range).

EDIT: oops I just did a search it's Vortex not Vortecx, sure I can't spell but you should just be happy I remembered the game after all I only played it once

I would have to disagree on that. It was still Star Fox and compared to ithe rest of the N64 libary, it is still fairly unique. What it lost was this. Remember the Vemom orbit level? I am sure you do. Simply put, it was hectic. Countless lazers contantly blasting at you with millions of sub-orbital rockets that frag, along with space mines and enemy fighters everywhere. The N64 had lost that. everything in that game was too orderly. Sure it allowed you to know what was coming up so you can get that high score, but in doing that it has lost the element of suprise.

Also the bosses weren't quite as imaginative as it's SNES counter-part.

While we're talking about Star Fox I'll add that I really liked both games.  My only real gripe with Star Fox 64 was that some of the voices sucked and the music wasn't as good.  Otherwise I think it was quite good and easily one of the best N64 games.  The new vehicles added a lot of freshness to the game.  Plus the first games controls are harder to get used to.  Star Fox is really game that was always designed for an analog stick.

One thing I would love to see would be a Gamecube remake of the original Star Fox.  All the levels would be exactly the same except with updated graphics and textures and now analog control would be possible.  Star Fox was a very ambitious game and I think it would benefit greatly with no hardware limitations.  They should keep the music and "doo boo do rad do" voices intact though for nostalgia.

Oh man, I loved Vortex. Very VERY underrated game. Offered much more freedom than Starwing (Star Fox). Ran alot better, too. And yes, it was rock hard! ;__;

[reply to oohhboy] hmmm, maybe "uniqueness" wasn't the right word to use, and maybe the point(s) your explaining are the reason, I don't know.  What I do know is that something was lost in the N64 version whether it's style or just fun.  Of course their's a good chance I'm just being discriminatively nostalgic

Get all the games that Nintendo ported to GBA - Super-Mario All-Stars and Zelda: Link to the Past.  For about $10 you can get what would cost over $100 new on GBA, with the sole sacrifice of portability.

Along with the titles everyone else mentioned, get Tetris Attack.  It's one of the best puzzle games ever made.

I've got a question.  There's a battery in the SNES cartridges used for game saving, right?  Does anyone know what the life is supposed to be on these?

I've recently been buying games again for my SNES.  Some are REALLY expensive and I just wondered if it is much of a risk that it will stop working properly soon.  I have had many of my games since about '93 and none have stopped saving, but I still wanted opinions from you knowledgable people.

You shouldnt worry.  The SNES is built superbly, and i havent had any batteries go bad yet, and i've owned it for 12 years.

The batteries have nothing to do with the console they have to do with the games.  I have found that most of my games has save batteries that still work.  Unless it's been mistreated Nintendo's first party games usually have pretty long lasting save batteries.  However I've found that a lot third party games that use the battery only to keep high scores don't last as long.  Konami game saves in particular have crapped out on me.

When buying a used game ensure with the seller that the save battery still works.  If a battery does bite the dust it is possible to replace it.  You have to crack open the game of course to do it.  I think they just use a standard watch battery.

Yeah, the fact that I haven't had problems with saving was implied in my post...Sorry if it wasn't clear...

Thanks, guys.  I didn't know the battery was possible to replace.  My games have lasted since '92/'93 but I had a moment of paranoia that I was spending money on games that were going to die on me.  Thanks again!

It seemed to me that those batteries recharged while you play your game, at least I once lost my savedata in one game after not playing it for a long time, but it had no problems saving again after that...
