Topic: GBA Player questions

I was wondering if games using the GBA player looks as good as the SNES versions.
I love the games from SNES days: mario world, mario kart, f zero, and some of the rpgs are great.  The thought of combining some of the best from the SNES days with the best GC games is very appealing...it would be an incredible permanant collection of games!

Anyone UNhappy with their GBA Player?  If yes why?

And can someone set me straight on the display?  Poorer, equal, or better than the SNES versions?

One more: is black still the only color available for the GBA Player?

Comparing the two, I believe the GBP games look slightly more blurry, but it's such a small difference it shouldn't matter...

And as far as I know, black is still the only color you can get...

you can get indigo ones, i'm not sure if they are available in the US how ever, i know i have one (i'm australian) not sure about platinum.

i'm perfectly happy with my GBP, some games look stunning on it, others (lttp) don't look as good as the GBA, that isn't to say they look bad, they just lose something in the magnification from the tiny screen to large.

You can get colored ones at an import shop. But you have to buy the US boot disc for $15 from Nintendo.

Link to the past is my biggest reason for this question, even though I didnt list it in the first post.  To hear it looks a little worse is a little discouraging.  Not that it will make a huge difference in such a great game.  I just want the best games in their best versions.


Any other opinions on the GBA Player vs. SNES (re: display/graphics/colors/overall game versions)?

Wish I didn't sell the SNES so many years ago.

As far as color, I have purple, so I don't mind the black GBA player, although if I had a platinum cube I would want it to match.

The general rule is, the originals look better on the SNES than the GBA, but that's a given. The original games were designed for televisions and the GBA versions were not. The GBA versions do offer extra features, though (interrupt save, bonus levels, etc.)

Well if you're serious about that then the SNES version is almost always the way to go.  Aside from the graphics issue mentioned above Nintendo also changes the GBA versions (for the worst in my opinion) by adding repetitive voices to the characters and lowering the difficulty.  That may or may not bother you.  Many of the GBA versions have some added stuff though which kind of balances it out.  The Four Swords may be worth having an annoying voice for Link.

Ports aside the GB Player is still worth owning for exclusive GBA games like FFTA, Metroid Fusion, and the Advance Wars games.  Those are well worth playing on a TV even if the graphics look a little blurry.  In my experience if you're just playing on a 20" TV you'll hardly notice anything wrong.

I play GBA games on my 53inch TV and the games dont look blury at all.  Maybe not quite as clear, but not bad by any means.

well, its the brightness, really. Developers brightened the color palette for the SNES ports so they could be seen on a standard GBA that has a darker palette. Good for the handheld, bad for the TV. Plus, the SMA series made a lot of Mario fans angry. We just wanted Super Mario All Stars ported and we'd be happy. But Nintendo went and re-released all the titles sepratley. So if you were to get Super Mario Bros. DX(SMB1, SMB2J), Super Mario Advance (SMB2), Super Mario Advance 4 (SMB3) (and Super Mario Advance 2 for SMW if you got that bundle cartridge) Thats like $90 ($120 with SMW) VS. $10-15 used All Stars cartridge. Play it on the go? Thats a good point, but if you could play it at a slashed price, its better to just go for the cheaper alternative (And the alternative is actually good)

But if your an insane fanatic like me, you'd get All Stars and the Advance titles. But meh...

But the GBA does well with new titles. The new Mario games (Wario Land 4, Mario & Luigi, Mario Kart Super Circut etc. etc.) Are awesome. Dont even pass them up.

If you're wanting Link to the Past, just bounce around some of your local game shops.  I got a brand new SNES and brand new copies of F-Zero and Zelda just about a year and a half ago.

I love my GB Player. It was well worth the purchase. Games look fine on it. If you just want to play LTTP in all its glory though (original graphics, origianl controller), you can probably find a SNES somewhere for around $20 and a copy of LTTP for around $10. At least thats about what I paid. Check pawn shops, flea markets, and garage sales when summer comes around. You just won't be able to play it on the road.

I will have to agree with everyone else and say that while the player makes games slightly more blurry, I think it is worth it just to be able to play all the gba games you can't get on the old consoles. Plus, its nice to be able to sit back and put the game on my tv when I get home while I let my sp have a little break .
