Hooking up a PAL GameCube to a DVI-D TFT Monitor
« on: November 20, 2003, 02:32:14 AM »
Greetings GCGamers,

I know the subject has been done before,
but I've never found an satisfactorily answer
to my problem:

I have a:

-PAL-I GameCube (Europe)

-a Nintendo GameCube Digital Cable (Japan)

-iiyama ProLite E431S 17" TFT Monitor, with a D-sub and DVI-D input
connector/signal (Europe) and a native resolution of 1280x1024.

I want to connect my European GameCube to my monitor with the highest
possible input/output quality possible. Budget should not be an issue.
I have no soldering skills whatsoever!

How can I connect my GameCube properly considering the aformentioned
factors?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I was under the impression that only NTSC Gamecubes support "digital" output (component in USA and that weird D-sub connector in Japan).  Is that true?

Yes that would be true. The PAL GC is truly the worth when it comes to how you can out put things. It only allows RF, comosite and RGB scart. While RGB scart is the best of the three it's still interlaced unlike a proper digital signal. Pity really, it means you cant get any good VGA converters for it.

If that's the case, it sounds like the best PMantis can do is use a vga box to upscan the interlaced signal.  That's unfortunate.

Thank you for the replies,

But is there someone out there that has definite knowledge
about these matters? After all, the PAL-I GameCube does
have a Digital output connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am very eager to solve the problem.

Thanks again.
