PSO is the only pay online game at the moment...Soon LAN games such as Kirby's Air Ride and Mario Kart will be playable online for free with tunneling software being developed...

There's no real "Nintendo online service" to speak of. You'll have to wait for the next gen. It's too late to start up a service now when GC is reaching middle age.

warp pipe sure is, compatable with mac windows and linux, x-link aka project kai isn't compatable with mac and linux yet, but they are rewriteing it in C++ so it will work on mac and linux, check out the thread in talkback for info and websites.

im not sure how it is for gamecube, but with xbox live they have it set so that all the games are run threw microsoft servers so that it is more centralized. Is it the same with gamecube? I heard that each company is in charge of online for thier games.

sega run their own PSO servers, outside that with the tunneling, either x-link kai or warp pipe project, people will have to host their own servers, given nintendo hasnt' committed to online with the GCN, so no, Nintendo them selves don't have their own servers, PSO has its own servers, LAN tunneled games will require people to host their own servers.
