I think that Metroid is a grand game.  It has great music and atmosphere.  The controls are awkward at first, but you get used to them.  The graphics are some of the best on GC, and the gameplay is a beautiful thing!
Buy it and enjoy!

I enjoyed it for the first few hours, then grew to hate it. Give it a rent first or something!

It's one of the best games I've ever played. Plan a few days vacation or something, you'll _need_ that time with your cube

Definitely an enjoyable game.  I've never been so immersed in a non-Zelda game before I played MP...Can't wait for the sequel...

i recommend delving into the game not as a 1st person shooter, but rather as an adventure/exploration game... see past the perspective for what it really is and you won't be disappointed.

Metroid Prime is by far one of the best games on the Cube, if not the best.  No game I have ever played pulled me in like this one did.  If you have the stereo equipment definitely use it.  The Pro Logic II sound creates such an immersive environment.  I spent hours just shooting my arm cannon to listen to the sound effects.  Prime is up there with some of the best games ever made.  It's phenomenal in every category; graphics, gameplay, audio, control, replay value.  This game just flat out rocks!!!  Definitely pick it up, I would be shocked beyond belief if you didnt enjoy this fantastic masterpiece!!!

Yeah, Grey didn't like it too much. . .

I thought it was great, though, if that counts

Metroid Prime was/is an unbelievably polished game. It is highly recommended. I consider myself a hardcore Metroid series fan, and I think it's wonderful.

Very, very good game. Don't go into it expecting a fast paced, action oriented shot-em-up. Some of the puzzles take thought, and you'll have to backtrack some. Scan everything! You'll miss half of the game if you aren't willing to read the scans.

A lot of detail and care was put in to MP, and it shows. If twitch gaming is your only thing, and you don't care for an immersive experience, MP probably won't be for you. You won't know until you try it, though.

Enjoy,

Exactly.  The Original Metroid, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion are all adventure/exploration games.  So is Metroid Prime.  All that's changed is the view (3rd-person to 1st-person).

Metroid Prime was a lot of fun during the first 20 hours, but then it started to get monotonous.  That doesn't mean it is a bad game... just too long IMHO.  I think the world was too big with too many rooms to explore.  They should have shrunk it a little bit, but still an awesome game for those first 20 hours!
