GAME OVER FOR GAMECUBE????? :(
« on: October 11, 2003, 09:09:42 AM »
Poor sales in Europe and a backlog of surplus stock have meant that Nintendo have halted production until autumn. The Dixon’s group and Argos have both stated they are going to discontinue sales once surplus stock is sold

It was inevitable (which is why I have not bought one) after all Nintendo just don’t seem interested in targeting all areas and all age groups of the market. How many games do you know of on there system with an adult theme????
ANSWER NOT MANY a few but not many

I wont deny they make GREAT games Zelda, Metroid Prime to name few. But unfortunately the public want more than just the cutesy Mario style games; they want games like GTA, GT3, etc, games aimed squarely at adults. Could you ever imagine a game with a theme as adult as GTA on Cube?

Nintendo seem to once again have got it wrong (N64 previously, kept afloat by Pokemon). They make great games but this doesn’t make up for them not aiming games at the western market, specifically Europe. Sony has a large share of the 3 main markets because they care about there public. Nintendo seemed to be only interested in aiming their console at the Japanese market. A severe lack of third party releases meant that Nintendo could only rely on the first party releases. Further more the other two systems had the advantage of being multimedia systems where as the Cube is purely a games console. True I do not use my PS2 to watch DVD’s as the quality is poor, but customers will always be pleased too get something extra i.e. a DVD player as a bonus. What with EIDOS stating that they are discontinuing to publish games on the console the future does not bode well. They seem to have lost sight of what made the SNES so popular.

I’m gonna wait till the next big price drop (currently £79.99 in the UK) and bag myself a bargain

I think Nintendo would be wise to do as Sega and make games for the other platforms.

Another one of THESE threads? Super.

BTW, Argos came back, crawling like a maggot, and restock the GC.

Whatever.  Do we really need more of these uninformed threads whining about Nintendo doing the same thing that got them there in the first place?

Short story here.

Nintendo has lots of AAA exclusive games forthcoming later this year or early next year.
Nintendo is doing well in terms of sales in Japan and North America
Nintendo has won back the support of the hardcore gamer (see GameFAQs for poll data)
I am 22 years old and have no problems finding fun games.
Once I had, a little game
I liked to crawl back into my brain
I think you know the game I mean

Eh, the Gamecube is outselling the PS2 in America right now by 20%- if anything Nintendo's just getting the party started.

We've seen too many of these posts to bother responding to them in detail.  Regardless the fate of the GC, you are wrong on almost every point.  Fish pointed out but one of several.

While the situation is worse in Europe, a lot of your complaints really don't have much to back them up.  There are plenty of games just as violent as GTA on Nintendo systems, and True Crime: Streets of LA looks to have even the same style of gameplay with top-notch acting, an original soundtrack and the whole nine yards.

GameCube, more or less, is Nintendo catching up with their previous mistakes.  They are getting publishers like Capcom, Square, and Konami back, and although it's taking time for them to get games out for GC, those relationships will be much stronger by the start of the next generation.

Still, even saying that, I have over 30 GREAT games for GC and haven't had time to finish them all.  There are a couple genre gaps like RPGs, but overall, there isn't much to complain about.

And now I'm going to close this thread before it turns into a huge line of people wanting to bash you over the head.
