New European Stars Catalogue
« on: September 08, 2003, 07:39:09 AM »
Nintendo of Europe have finally revealed the "new" Stars Catalogue. There only seem to be a few items added to the catalogue in limited amounts. That means that if you were too late, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the old catalogue and the new one. Why? Because at the moment, you can only get wallpapers and screensavers. I am a bit dissapointed in Nintendo of Europe after their big promises. I still managed to get a GameBoy Player though(there were 25 for all of Europe!!!), so I guess that I do not have that much to complain about.

Did anyone else manage to get anything???

For the curious these were the new items in the stars catalogue:

Game Boy Player-5000 stars
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Master Quest bonusdisc-3000 stars
Mario poster by Miyamoto-2500 stars
Disney t-shirt-1200 stars
t-shirt(I can't remember what was on the second t-shirt, I think it had the Metroid logo on it)-1200 stars
Metroid Prime faceplate-150 stars

As far as I can tell there were only 25 of each.

EDIT: The second t-shirt doesn't have the Metroid but the Robotech logo on it.

I think I almost have enough to get a T-Shirt.  That's pretty good considering that I don't even live in Europe.

NoE's site s currently "under construction". Don't ask me what's happening there.

Oh, and 5k stars??? Some people here said they have as much as 8k, but I still wonder how the hell one can accumulate that much. I mean, are there even 20 games with VIP code out there?

I had 6745 stars before I ordered the Game Boy Player. I might post a summary of how I got them when the site is back up.

I wish they had this stars sytem in America... I really want that faceplate and Mario poster. I heard NoA was planning on it but I haven't heard anything else since.

I'm confused by this whole situation. For me, the Stars Catalogue is still showing the "The Stars Catalogue is Changing!" page, with the countdown which long since reached zero. These gifts must have been there extremely fleetingly if I missed them.

The stars catalogue was taken offline again because the site couldn't cope with the high amount of visitors. Most of the items were sold out anyway. Nintendo is planning to have more items on sale when the stars catalogue reopens again.

For the curious, here's how I got my stars.

I've got over 8,000 stars, but it is still possible to get over 2,000 more through games which have not been registered (or are not owned!).

The forums there are back up and running, but they did have that "under construction" filler there previously. Do you reckon that's because so many people went there to complain about the Stars!?!

Cheers JB for the list of things that were on offer.

Nintendo.co.uk have now posted an article saying that there was too much demand the first time and their system crashed, and that they'll "re-relaunch" the catalogue again at some unspecified future time.

Quote

The demand for our relaunched Stars Catalogue has been big. So big, in fact, that our site experienced some technical problems - and those of you trying to access those brand new gifts have been greeted by some very long loading times.

We want everyone to be able to access our raft of new gifts - not just those with a fast enough connection to wade through the syrup successfully. So we're temporarily postponing the Stars Catalogue relaunch until we have the hitch fixed.

Those of you who did manage to purchase a gift with your Stars needn't worry - we've got the details of every completed transaction, so if you received a confirmation mail, you'll get your prize. And if you missed out, don't fret - after the relaunch, the Stars Catalogue will be updated every week with new gifts. Well over 800 items are on their way, so there are plenty of opportunities to come away smiling.

To everyone who turned up and contributed to the spectacular and unprecedented demand on Monday - sorry for the problems, and be assured that you won't have to wait too much longer to get your hands on those long-awaited real-life goodies. We'll update you on this site in plenty of time for the rescheduled relaunch, so keep your eyes right here.
