Before you read on, understand that I am not an 11 year old American boy who caught on the Dragon Ball Z bandwagon a year ago. I watched Dragon Ball almost ten years ago, true I was only six. Now I have watched most of the series in the original Japanese with subtitles, where it is a show for twenty year olds full of swearing blood and gore. Not a silly kids 'toon'. Let us continue.
I have been a fan of DBZ for a while, and at E3 2002 when Atari (Infogrames, now called Atari) announced a fighting game for PS2 and an RPG for Gamecube under the DBZ franchise, I was excited. There was even a minute long clip of flying through landscapes and scences from the show, supposedly a preview for a DBZ RPG. Not since the days of the Super Nintendo has their been a decent DBZ RPG, and it was only in Japanese, getting half-translated by a computer junkie on the 'net. Hearing about a new RPG, made by a European company (thus it being more than likely to come out in NA) made me extremely giddy. Yes, giddy. Now WHERES MY RPG?! Surely someone else remembers hearing about this. Surely I wasn't hearing and seeing things? Sure, Budokai, a half-good fighter is coming out for GCN in August. But ... it isn't an RPG.
I had felt this way for a while, until six months ago in some odd zine (I don't recall which) there was an article talking about the fighter for the PS2, and the RPG for Gamecube, making me realise I had not been dreaming. But again, there has been a lack of news from any site. I personally am peeved. I am a fan of many different animes, some series, some not, but this is my favourite. I want my half decent game. Theyve been working on it for a year and a half. Surely they've gotten somewhere. Right?
