Mario Golf, where are you?
« on: July 19, 2003, 03:54:36 PM »
Is Nintendo going to update us on Mario Golf any time soon?  It is coming out in a week and we know almost nothing about it.  We know more about F-Zero than we do about Mario Golf.  Is anyone else excited about this game?

I agree with you, one would expect to see more coverage, but I can't say I'm surprised.  Although it is part of the Mario Sports lineup, Mario Tennis is just the better franchise.  Also, under normal conditions, I would be excited, and arguments could be made saying I am.  But the rest of this year is already putting a huge dent into my gaming budget with F-Zero, Viewtiful Joe, MarioKart, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III, Final Fantasy: CC, and Metal Gear Solid.

Here lately I've been focusing on the older, cheaper games. Mario Golf is one of those games I'm sure I'll like but I can wait for. It'll drop in price sooner or later and I'll get it then. Now if it was Mario Tennis, I might have a harder time waiting.

Tennis games are a bit to slow for me. I mean hit the ball, wait 5-10 minutes for your friends to hit, then go again. I might pick it up later for $30, but I can wait. Plus there are so many games that I have to get I'm gonna be in trouble. Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, FF:CC, FZero, Pokemon Colleseum.

Then next year there will no doubt be Starfox, Zelda, Mario 128, and Metroi Prime 2 to name a few.

There isnt much room in my budget for games that I might like when there are so many that I know I will love. Mario Golf will probably be a casualty of Nintendo's excellent gaming lineup.

speaking of which....there are many more games...sure they have a ways to go before they are released, but there are tons of big games supposed to eb released this year that we dont know much about...but ur right it seems like mario golf is in the forefront....i would almost assume it is delayed.....its weird that nothing has really been mentioned about it on the specifics. hopefully we learn something soon

I just want Camelot to release Tennis AND Golf so they can focus on that Gamecube RPG they've been telling us about for years.

I think Nintendo's problem is it has WAY too many games to hype at the moment.
All through the N64 days, it had maybe two or three big games on the horizon at once but there are about a dozen great games either being developed or co-developed by Nintendo or one its second parties (or funded by Nintendo) that are supposed to be out by the end of the year. Nintendo's just not used to having such a full plate so it's not surprising that some games are seemingly completely off its radar.
I'm starting to think Nintendo might not even realize the game is scheduled for release in just a few weeks

Actually it took Camelot 14 months to release the N64 version of Mario Tennis after Mario Golf was released.  So I would expect that wait again before Mario Tennis GCN is released.

i hope that camelot works some things out in mario golf, because the controls were pretty crappy in the demo that i played at media play today (it wasnt the controller's problem... the controller was pretty new)

its scary, i cant remember ever having played nintendo liscensed games with bad control.
I'll shut up now...

I didn't think Camelot even started on Mario Tennis until after Mario Golf was finished.
Both of the new games are being developed together so I think we'll get Mario Tennis very soon.

This is currently my most wanted game.  I'm still constantly playing MG on N64, but the only problem is that my two brothers and I only have two controllers, both of which are worn out, and we've played the game to death.

I recently tried out the game at Wal-Mart, and was disapointed at the controls, but that's only because I didn't know how to play.  I didn't know that if you press B at the top of your swing, it doesn't do the second half of the swing for you (people who've played will know what I mean).  As Michael8983 said, I've yet to play a Nintendo game with bad controls, and I'm sure Mario Golf will be no exception.  I only expect the best.

But as for advertising (or lack there of), I am guessing that there are alot more games to be hyped right now. i have been seeing more F-Zero commercials, but that's about it.
