Funhouse Debate Club #1: What's the deal with women?
« on: February 14, 2015, 12:25:46 PM »
They witch and whine about equality and respect, then they line up for 50 Shades of Grey so they can fantasize about being tied up and beat by men? Anyone wanna help me square that round peg?

Fiction ≠ Reality.

I watch Power Rangers, but I don't want to dress in brightly colored spandex.

Well that's a fashion choice granted, but you still wouldn't mind fighting ninja robots or whatever. By oppressing women aren't we just giving them a less violent version of what they want?

I play Call of Duty, but I don't want to go around and shoot people.

(okay, I don't play CoD... but I have played plenty of FPS in my day).

You're on a video game forum, where our favorite pastime constantly gets hammered for the same thing you're trying to do with FSG.

I don't care about FSG, have only a passing knowledge of the books/movie, and really have no interest in them what-so-ever - but I don't have a problem with them existing or with people enjoying them.

It's like The Interview all over again.  Just because I want to see a movie about two idiots trying to kill a world leader, it doesn't mean I want the US government to go out and find two idiots to try and assassinate a world leader.

I watched Human Centipede.  I don't want to either sew people together ass-to-mouth, nor do I want to be sewn together with someone else ass-to-mouth.

But you're not taking your SO to the movies to cheer on the centipede to the tune of $30 million on opening weekend.

Also, I'm not going to link this article but here's a quote: “It has doubled -- if not tripled -- the sales of light BDSM-related products: crops, whips, handcuffs and blindfolds

(okay, I don't play CoD... but I have played plenty of FPS in my day).

But you want to be a hero. You want to be able to take extraordinary risk to accomplish your goals and never have to worry about the consequences/repercussions.

I watched Human Centipede.  I don't want to either sew people together ass-to-mouth, nor do I want to be sewn together with someone else ass-to-mouth.

Maybe, but you would love to be able to realize some freaky (sexual?) fantasy that involved several people lining up to take your metaphorical "****".

Only because:
A.) No local theater will show THC.
B.) My wife absolutely refuses to watch them.

Otherwise, I'd be there at midnight with her by my side. :D

Again, I don't know much about FSG, but your original post mentioned being "beat by men" - BDSM isn't the same as "being beat" and who says it's not the women buying those items to use on their men? :D

But you want to be a hero.

No I don't.  No one likes a hero.  It always ends badly.

They do that now.

You can be feminist and enjoy BDSM.

50 Shades though is a Bad Movie based on a Bad Novel based on Bad Twilight Fan-Fiction. You can't account for good taste, which is terrible because the movie only reinforces the negative stereotypes of BDSM relationships.

It may be opening up some people to the thought of trying it out. My wife and I have NO taste for it (or the movie), but I know sex scenes in movies have lead to my wife and I discussing things we might want to try. Open dialogue between partners on sexuality is important for a healthy relationship.

I only hope people don't go into a film like this and think it means they don't have to put up with things they are not at all comfortable with to please their partners. Everyone has a personal boundary that should be respected.

Women won't accept bells as payment, Khush. So I hope you figure out something to do with that large investment you made in animal crossing currency. Foreign currency investments are almost always a scam.

A little too close to home? Or because they never portray is accurately?

I see nothing wrong with a little ATM, but there is no need to make it a permanent position.

and I disagree with Stratos.... just a little bit though.
You absolutely SHOULD step out of your comfort zone (baby steps though) to please your(self and/or your) partner.
nothing wrong with exploring the limits a little bit. Unless you are afraid of what you might find out about yourself....?

Expand your boundaries a little. Don't be so uptight. All those things you dream about doing to her... she probably dreamt about someone doing to her, and vice versa.

Not saying people shouldn't try new things and step out of their comfort zones. But people should not be forced into situations and activities that they don't want to be a part of.

I probably swing to the "protective side" more than BnM because I know several women who were all but forced into borderline rape situations because they lacked enough assertion to firmly say no. There is a balance and I believe respectful dialogue is the best way to meet both people's needs and allow for exploration to occur.
