Theme song for a forum post
« on: September 02, 2014, 02:43:53 PM »
Ever read a post and a song starts playing in your head because the wording reminds you of a song? If not, then you haven't lived. Or should listen to more music. However, by showing you some examples, maybe I can open your eyes to the wonderful world of connecting forum posts with music.

Example 1. Perhaps you remember Phil's thread as to whether Mario Kart 8 would influence you to purchase a Wii U. With the title of the thread being "If you don't own a Wii U..." and his opening post talking about other games that didn't seem to infuence purchases, I had the song "If You Don't Know Me By Now" by Simply Red playing in my head. Mainly just the chorus part. I also changed the lyric from know to own so that I would sing it as if it were the Wii U theme song. If you don't own my by now, you will never, never, never, own me. I don't actually care for the original version but I'd enjoy the song more if it had the Wii U focus I gave it. Now whenever I see that thread or think of it, that song is tied to it.

Here's the song if you want to hear what I'm referring to:

Example 2. In the case of the announcement for Project S.T.E.A.M., it was basically the word steam that I associated with Daft Punk's Steam Machine. Everytime I see that game's title, I want to say it as Project Steeeeaaaammmmm Maaaccchhhiiiinnneeee in the breathy, steamy way it is said in the song. For that matter, there are portions of Skytown, Elysia in Metroid Prime 3 where I think of that song also. Yes, it can just be as simple as one word even that recalls a song to mind.

Here's the song if you want to hear what I'm referring to:

Example 3. In the most recent example, Forum Fan Favorite PixPix made a thread about Nintendo's dry spell for him and implored us to give him hope. His cries for hope made me think of the song "Your Love Amazes Me" which is sung by John Berry but in my head, I could have sworn it was a woman who sang it like Toni Braxton or something. It's a country song which I blame on my parents and their constant playing of country music as I grew up. On the plus side, I ran a catagory about Country Singers on Jeopardy awhile ago because of it and I have barely listened to country in the last decade. Back to the point at hand, the key part of the song is the chorus which states "you give me hope, you give me reason, you give me something to believe in." All of that I feel encompasses PixPix's hope and appeal. Again, I keep thinking that over and over when I see that thread.

Here's the song if you want to know what I'm referring to (but it is country so why would you want to?):

Anyone have this happen to them?

It's not a specific thread, but I think this song really encapsulates my moderation style.
