Pro Controller Support Coming to New Super Mario Bros. U
« on: May 30, 2013, 02:53:13 PM »

A long overdue addition.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34394

A member of the Developer's Room has announced on MiiVerse that an upcoming update for New Super Mario Bros. U will add Pro Controller support. The patch will go live before or on the day New Super Luigi U launches.

Additionally, players will be able to purchase New Super Luigi U within New Super Mario Bros. U instead of having to go through the eShop.

Since I don't have a Wii U, I assume that NSMB U uses the same Wiimote controls as NSMB Wii for the players not using the Gamepad?

I liked NSMB Wii a lot but the amount of accidental deaths due to stupid waggle misfires drove me nuts.  My brother can be a shaky spaz and lost us a few lives with that crap.  NSMB U without **** controls is actually a selling point and I hope it becomes the norm.  You're not selling the Wii U on motion controls, Nintendo, so you don't need to shove this waggle **** down our throats anymore.

What I really want is retroactive CC support for Wii games that realistically could have supported it and didn't.  Hell, make it Wii U exclusive and that will be a pro that could help lean me towards a purchase.

Why the wait? That shouldve been done at the game's release.....

The Pro Controller would have made the game easier. I found Flying Squirrel Mario's extra jump harder to control than Propeller Mario's using the Wii Remote shake. I'm glad this update is coming. I may actually play the game again.

Because it's not something most people will use. Everyone has a GamePad and the game controls GREAT with it, so it's enough. Not everyone will have a Pro Controller, so it wasn't a priority. I'm impressed they are even adding Pro Controller support considering most people won't use it.

For multiplayer, yo. If you didn't have a Wii Remote, you had to buy one which is the same principle as having to buy a Pro Controller. Yeah, many people already had Wii Remotes, but that's beside the point. It was a strange omission. Support last generation's controller but not one of the current controllers? What the whuck?

I'm a little confused.  Does this mean I can finally play single player with the pro controller?  Or is this update only for players 2-4?  I would love to be able play the whole game with the pro controller by myself.
I got hooked on the white stuff back in the 70s.

I will totally use this for the Luigi DLC. Lack of four Remotes has bitten me for multiplayer a couple of times, and if playing long-term at the TV, I would rather use the smaller/lighter Pro controller for this game.

Next up: please allow use of the GamePad in multiplayer even if no one wants to use Boost Mode, i.e. let it also replace a Remote if desired. More controller options always help in a multiplayer game like this!

Well, it's about time. Now I might finally bother to play more than an hour or two of that game. I just can't stand playing it with the Gamepad, & I didn't play the last console NSMB game with a Wiimote either.

I'd be more excited for this if I had a Pro Controller, but I can't justify dropping $50 for a peripheral that isn't essential.

honestly im kinda annoyed by the lack of classic controller support, i see absolutely no reason to hang on to the ccp right now tbh

the original has been very good for VC though...

I have seen them being sold for $27.99 with free shipping on eBay. Look for a seller called "Worldbestdeals".

Multiplayer support makes sense, but given that they've de-emphasized the regular spin recovery it doesn't seem like that big of deal.

Oddly enough, I started out using the triggers on NSMBU for the squirrel suit, but reverted to shaking the gamepad based on NSMBWii muscle memory and it works great. I'm assuming the gyrotech is better?

Woo Hoo! Great news!
Unless of course it is only for players 2-4. In which case...not as great.

it could also be refined, somebody wanna test that for me.

why would it only be players 2-4, it could be for multiplayer only but you can just put the gamepad in boost mode and put it in the cradle.

It could be for just players 2-4 because Nintendo still wants you to use the gamepad during play. Like how they keep asking you to post to Miiverse and whatnot.

I would recommend buying a Pro Controller at a reputable place. There are knock-offs out there.
