Rumor: Bravely Default: Flying Fairy Coming to the West
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:23:33 PM »

No news on Cowardly Option.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy may be coming to the west according to Siliconera.

Their report states that multiple trusted sources have said it is being localized for English speaking players. Bravely Default is a well received JRPG that released in October of last year in Japan.

Developed by Silicon Studio, best known for their Zelda-influenced title 3D Dot Game Heroes, the game is a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.  Its battle system has players carefully manage their turns; risk them all for a chance to wipe out the enemy, or bide your time and store them for the chance of an even stronger attack. StreetPass is an important aspect of Bravely Default's design. Players can call upon StreetPassed friends for help in battle, and even populate and rebuild a village.

At this time, Square Enix has not officially announced a Western release so this remains a rumor.

I think you mean "4 Heroes of LIGHT"

With that said, 4 Heroes of Light was very underrated.   The art style was this beautiful pastel Phantom Hourglass Styles crossed with Animal Crossing's "rolling" world.   And from what I hear, Bravely Default is a really good iteration of the 4HoL combat system.  Loved the risk/reward mechanic in that one.

I think the title of the game hurt it more than anything else, since it implies that this is a remake of FF3, which it is nothing like, and it makes it seems like you only have 4 characters to control throughout the game, which is also untrue, as you have a big cast of characters coming in and out, FF4 style.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

With SE's recent financial down slide a game like this Bravely Default indicates to me that they need to get back to making quality RPGs once again. Not those big budgeted games like Final Fantasy 13, but games that people will actually like. SE has the chance to own the 3DS in Japan if they continue to churn out quality RPGs for the system.

I don't really know anything about this game, but, the 3DS needs more RPGs. They should probably rename the game for the US though, a name like that will do more harm than good.

If this ends up legit, the 3DS will be on the greatest RPG stretch Nintendo systems have had since, uh, SNES 1994-1996?

I think the recent stretch on DS, Wii, and now 3DS of great JRPGs is on the same level as back then, if not better. I'd make the same argument for the recent boom of 2D platformers being better than what we saw on the NES and SNES.

As someone who likes both Final Fantasy XIII games, "**** You".  We all know you'd be dancing on the ceiling if Square-Enix announced a port of those games to the Wii U.

Maybe people will shut up about this game online now if it's finally being localized, at least until Square-Enix reports that all those supporters didn't actually buy the game. The whining on my Twitter feed's been getting annoying.  At this moment, I really couldn't care less about the game. I have so many backlogged DS RPGs these days that are probably better that it's hard to get excited for a game like this.  Still, Square-Enix put out something like 4 demos of the game in Japan. If they bring over a demo for this game to the NA eShop, I'll check it out.

While I'm one of the few that loved XIII, I'm also one of the even fewer that didn't think that XIII-2 improved on the original: I think it ruined it.

Oh, the DS....now that was an RPG machine.   I think I've played (assuming you lump in SRPG's as well) at least 20 on the DS, and I've still got a few on my backlog.  I would say the DS RPG library outshines any other console/generation/etc., including the PS2.
