There's more than one cave story to be told.

Metroid-style platformer, The Cave, is making its way to the Wii U eShop, according to developer Double Fine Productions.

The confirmation came from a representative for the title, telling Joystiq the news during a demonstration of the game at PAX Prime.

The Cave is directed by Ron Gilbert, the mind behind Maniac Mansion and The Curse of Monkey Island. It is scheduled for release in early 2013.

This marks Double Fine Productions first title on Nintendo hardware. They previously released games like Psychonauts and Brutal Legend on other systems.

I'd like to see them do a Brutal Legend 2. I think the first one was highly underrated.

This has me hooked to a much larger degree than the Deathspank games Ron did last.

I'm very much looking forward to this kind of game on Wii U, something a little more out of the ordinary.
I'm the love child of an NES and a C64.
