Favorite streaming music service?
« on: August 13, 2012, 06:04:32 PM »
Which streaming music service do you like best?

- Last.fm

- Spotify

- Pandora Radio

- Slacker Radio

I used to like Pandora, but their music selection is very limited, and you can't play individual tracks. The interface is also very sparse.

I actually never heard of Slacker Radio before I discovered the app on IE9's "Bing Bar". The Slacker website has a horrible interface, and has the same problems as Pandora.

Last.fm is more like a social networking site, and the interface is confusing. I couldn't find a way to play an individual song, just a 30-second preview.

Long story short, I like Spotify best. You can create stations and listen to individual tracks. Also, the PC app looks a lot like iTunes, with the same clean interface.

Never heard of Slacker. I love Pandora, very easy to use and nice for finding songs you might not have heard of before.

The only problem with Pandora is that you can't select individual songs to play. You have to create a "radio" list.

And I wouldn't recommend Slacker at all. The website is terribly designed and ugly. Pandora isn't much better, but at least everything looks somewhat clean.

The whole concept of Pandora though is to select a song, then have it pick similar songs. It may not be what someone always wants, but it's interesting if you want to listen to songs that are similar in style to ones you pick. If you want specific songs everytime, I suppose Spotify is good, as is YouTube.

Use grooveshark.com and just stream whatever you want, or on your Android phone use Tiny Shark or Dood's Music to stream from them. I really mainly use Pandora and Slacker (been using Slacker since Windows Mobile 3 years ago), but I search by bands , not songs. It's actually pretty nice to use the same band stations in each, they typically play completely different songs most of the time. The main channels I listen to are Mastodon and Bad Religion.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA

Slacker's great because it's like a more customizable Pandora. I think Pandora's algorithm is better, but Slacker lets you tweak things a lot more. And Spotify's really something else entirely; it does stations, but in my opinion not as well as Pandora or Slacker. Usually I'll find new songs in one of those, and then if I want to listen to them more I do it in Spotify.

I don't think it really counts, but I'm using google music to stream all of my collection. It works great.

Last.fm, Slacker, & Audio Galaxy here.

I used to mainly stick with last.fm but since a pair of firefox add-ons that I use along with it haven't been working properly, I've been switching around.

Slacker's ok...

I really only bothered with Audio Galaxy to stream my personal collection on my phone but their streaming playlist is ok too. I just get frustrated whenever a Nightwish song plays as someone speaks twice -during- the song to mention the song's name & what album it's on regardless if I own that particular album or not.
Mission...complete?
