Mafia 53: Harry Potter (An unbalance in the Force)
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:03:43 AM »
The inhabitants of Hogwarts were shocked to see that three people had died overnight:

Ceric (Mr.lovegood) was dead, killed by the student's own vote. He was a regular Hogwarts student.
Lying nearby was the body of apdude (Severus Snape) who seemed to have been killed by the Death Eaters. He was a regular Hogwarts student.
Then there was the gruesome corpse of jrlibrarian (Aberforth Dumbledoor). It was obviously the work of the Corrupted Wizard. He was a regular Hogwarts student.

It's a day of thinking and lying low. Right now all active players are being picked off.

I am surprised about Apdude. He was my number one suspect of being the corrupted wizard to be honest.

Has anybody been in contact with either Mop it up or Golden Phoenix? I notice they have been around so it's possible they could be lying very low and still sending in hits. Right now, the wizard and mafia seem to be targetting active players which is the usual strategy.

Right now, I recommend active players band together instead of picking off our numbers voting each other out.

I'm going to Vote GoldenPheonix and I humbly ask that you join me. I've wanted to target these lurkers for awhile.

I fear it's going to take a long time to root out these last mafia. Is it just one?

What in the world is going on here? I was waiting for the game to start, and now all of the sudden multiple threads are up and it's already the second day?

Ah, thanks. It looks like there is still one thread in there, so I guess this is actually day three?

I've glanced over the previous threads, and it looks like there's been a lot going on. If I gather, there's an unspecified number of Mafias left, but you guys think is just one, plus a killer role. I saw the player list in the dead thread, and I have a feeling that I'm staring at both those people right now. Bleh. Also, how is Khushrenada still in the game? That usually means he is Mafia. Then again, maybe they know that, and figure he'll be voted out sooner or later due to that very reasoning.

I think I know how this is going to end though: badly.

vote mop it up if it's too late, blame the alcohol.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

It's nice Mop It Up could join the game to then throw suspicions my way. That old line of me being mafia if I still alive has long been disproven. I've won many games as a townie lasting to the end. In fact, you should know. You've done it with me. I've even lost a game as a townie living to the end. That was a brilliant game by stevey. That one still brings a smile to my face.

At the same time, I can't be too upset about that idea either. After all, I know it is true that the longer I live, the more nervous other players get of me. That's alright. It might mean the mafia or killer will be more tempted to leave me alone knowing I'll draw more attention my way just by living. While it puts pressure on me to get results to remove such fears, I welcome the challange.

Despite what Silenced may think, I've found this game delightfully challenging so far. Of course, part of that praise must go to the two remaining evildoers who have given me so little to go on. It seemed like this might be a fast game after day 1 and I thought I was getting close to wraping things up yesterday but today's results have changed my thinking and I'm finding it hard to cipher anything. So, my congrats to the killer and death eater. I hope they do let me keep living so I can see whether I can get them or if they might be able to pull off my second townie loss. And I have no intention of a second townie loss.

Well actually, part of it is because of your reasoning. Do you really think that GoldenPhoenix is the type who would completely refrain from posting and just sit back and send in hits? Same question goes for me too. Where's the fun in that?

What happens in the event of a tie?

I'm going to do this just in case I don't get an answer to that in time.

And now an appeal to the auror

Somewhere out there is the auror, the protector. I don't know who you are but I do ask for your protection. Let me make a quick case for it.

As mop it up pointed out, I should be a target for the mafia or killer. Fortunately, I've always seemed to benefit from games where there are two hits a night and survived a bit longer. If I had to hazard a guess why, I'd say it's because one side thinks the other side will target me and thus they don't want to waste their hit on the same target. But unfortunately, after a bit of game time, one side will usually target me. Protecting me is one of the best choices you can make for a player likely to be targeted.

Now, as some one said, I could be mafia. Even if that were true, that doesn't mean I'm the killer. At some point, he's going to have to target me to win. Thus preventing his hit is going to help give all townies a bit more time to work things out which I fear we need. On the flip side, I could be the killer. Again, if I'm the killer, I'm not mafia and the mafia would want to target me for numerous reasons. Again, it would delay both sides. But that is just going by people thinking suspiciously of me. I could be the Townie Investigator. But no one ever thinks of the best of me. In which case protecting me would be a very good idea.

However, I will be honest. I am not the investigator and if you do know who he is, he deserves the protection over me. I am just a townie. Now, I know posting something like that will probably bring more attention from the mafia and killer to me because they might fear I am actually the investigator and am trying to send out a message. I realize that when I post this message. I'm fine with that for two reasons. 1. It will protect the real investigator. 2. By making myself more of a target, it just makes greater sense to protect me since I've increased the odds I may be targetted.

So, think about it and do the right thing. Save me.

I could see her doing it more than other players. That said, whenever I checked her status, she had usually shown up by now. She hasn't shown yet today. That could change in the early hours but her no-show so far is troubling to me. Also, in a game we played a few months back, you and I were townies and we won that game. I was never targetted once by the mafia. It was one such example I referred to earlier. That game, Golden Phoenix was the godfather. I never understood why she didn't target me. So, it is in part that previous game that has been in the back of my head when I started the Golden Phoenix vote today.

Frankly, when I have worked with her in the past, there have been times that have been a bit maddening because of how low key she can be in contributing to the group discussions or even being around. She's not always like that but she has shown such behavior before.

As for ties, I haven't tried to risk finding out. Silenced is hardly ever around and I'm not sure what he'd do in that situation. I fear he might kill both targets and we don't need more deaths right now. It could also be that no one dies but that's not a great solution either. The vote is the only weapon I have so I want to make sure that it at least succeeds against one target, preferably of my choosing. But only if I'm right. That Ceric vote wasn't my idea. I haven't read the dead thread but I'm sure if I did, I'd find he wasn't bitter about it or anything. It is disappointing RAB hasn't shown up after that reprieve however. I will say this. If Ceric was still in the game, I wouldn't have to worry about him showing up to vote. But that's something totally different from tiebreaking.

That's true, GoldenPhoenix usually is pretty low-key. I'm still not entirely sure she'd be completely absent, but I guess it wouldn't be totally out of character. As for me, that isn't my style. I like to participate. Whether I win or lose, I just like to play the game. So I was honestly unaware that it had started since it was in the Funhouse, which I don't check very often. I know how that looks, but that isn't something I would pull since I don't like non-participation. All I can do is hope that you remaining townies will believe me, because it would be a waste of time going after me instead of looking for that last member and killer.
