Episode 26: Bikini Slave Ewoks
« on: September 18, 2010, 06:18:41 AM »

Join us in peaceful protest during this week's newscast.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newscast/24078

Neal does the bulk of the talking this week as he recounts his experiences with Goldeneye 007, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, all the while being haggled by the rest of the newscast crew.

Further topics featured in this episode include: Bit.Trip Fate, more speculation on the 3DS release date, and an impromptu discussion on the progression of graphics on Nintendo systems.

Finally, in a feat that borders on Cricketcast levels of absurdity, we stage an act of defiance against the lackluster download options on Nintendo platforms as of late.

Send us listener feedback at newscast@nintendoworldreport.com, and follow us on twitter!

Can't wait to listen to this later today.

Has anyone else been having problems with chapter art showing up when downloading podcasts directly off the Ipod? If I load them off my computer, there are no problems, but it's not that convienent. Am I the only one who this is happening to?

There isn't any chapter art this week because we had Nathan edit the show in my absence.   I'll teach him how to do the chapters for next time.

Quite a nice episode and I do agree with the segment on downloads. It seems we're getting to the point where we're just happy to see one Virtual Console or half-decent looking title, doesn't it?
This is where I would write something witty or funny if I had any ideas.

I think The Westerner isn't bad. The speed reading section was a complete waste of time, you should just have cut it if you needed to keep the podcast short because it was completely unintelligible anyway.

Agreed.  If you're going to rip off Giant Bomb with their dramatic readings of WiiWare/DSiWare press releases, just do the dramatic readings.  Having everything sped up to ludicrous speed didn't really come off amusing.

It was a gamble. I think it worked out okay with the Tetris music inserted.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

See that's the thing. We don't want to rip off Giant Bomb, but I think all of us will agree that spending a good chunk of the show talking about games that we have to struggle to care about is not fun at all and takes away from better things we could be talking about.

This attempt kind of failed, but until we get interesting releases, the download part of the podcast is getting shrunk down.

Is anyone broken-hearted by this idea? How about we more or less read off the names of most of the titles and just focus on ones that are kindasorta interesting?

I would be OK with just reading the names of the less interesting games plus some basic info on them (stuff like the publisher and the summary provided by Nintendo).

I liked the speeding through the digital downloads, although the lists are long enough that the joke wore off by the end.  Still, I chuckled, and cutting five minutes off that section is a great idea.  Although I got Tetris music stuck in my head as a result...

I do think it's both revealing and justified that Neal, who had earlier tried to find the bright spots in Nintendo's digital services, is now quite bitter and disillusioned by the service.  There is still some good stuff coming out for WiiWare, (Bit.trip, Nicalis' games, and Super Meat Boy will be quality, and hopefully Sonic, Retro City, and Grotesque Tactics will all be good) and there are still a f***ton of awesome VC games that might come out, but there's not really any point in checking each week; every other month will suffice.  I've personally been reduced to the pipe dream that WiiWare will dry up quickly enough that Nintendo will revert to regular VC games.  But we'll probably just get more releases like 'Pixel Hunt Party: Super Shovelware Edition' instead.

There exists on my computer a brief 1 minute song of me singing a summary of the downloads, it has been autotuned and is replete with some "beats." I was gonna sub that in, but I decided that it will never be heard.

Zenonia's main problem is that the EXP drops seem too low by about 50%-100%-as a result, you spend a ton of time grinding.

I'm a little disappointed you didn't cover the record sales of Black and White.

Sorry, those comments were for episode 27.
