Fund Q?
« on: April 19, 2003, 09:42:54 PM »
Maybe someone can help me.  I'd like to get more information on "Fund Q," but I can't seem to find any specifics on the program besides how it is affiliated with Square.  Is there a site dedicated to providing information on the program?  Who is it restricted to?  Who can I contact if I represent an interested party?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'd prefer not to have to wait until E3 to ask a Nintendo rep in person for this information.  Thanks for your time.

If I remember correctly, Fund Q was a program that was started by former Nintendo President Yamauchi to help fund and spark new development for the Nintendo platform.    I think the fund was to be used by new development houses, and there was a stipultion that the project had to be one year from completion.

BS.

And doesn't the game have to incorporate use of the GBA linkup cable in some creative way?

Square set up new development house so that it could make games on the Gamecube. They used the FundQ to help do it which guaranteed they had to make at least one game for the Gamecube. It also will use the Gameboy Advance in some manner in order to fulfill their agreement with Nintendo.

I have something here that will verify this.

Source for game information:
"Last but certainly not least, the long-rumored Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle was confirmed as being able to connect with the GameCube release of the same name, and can be played on your GBA or TV in conjunction with its GC brother. The game will have multiplayer aspects, and players will be able to cooperate in their quest. This game's development is being funded by Nintendo's FundQ, which is a program that gives money to developers crafting games that take advantage of the GBA/GC link. FF:CC will be published by Nintendo. It's due in Spring 2003 in Japan, making it perfect candidate to come to the U.S. before the end of next year."

This all goes in line with what the people above me stated. The program was set up by the former president in hopes of garnering more third party support specifically to bolster Nintendo's assortment of games. Sadly, it looks like Nintendo is boosting Gameboy Advance more at this point. I'd rather see the GBA side of the linkup being a teaser to the main Gamecube game. Afterall, people should play Pokemon on the handheld and salivate over what Pokemon on the Gamecube is. Not the other way around where we get teased on the Gamecube and yearn for the handheld version.

As for how you can apply for this program, you could check on Nintendo of America's site for information. If that doesn't help, contact their public relations. If they just lead you in a circle... I don't know of anything else. Except for maybe checking out their Japanese site. Maybe someone around here will help you out and throw you a clue.

I dont think so about the GBA.   Square is related to Fund Q because Square used fund q to make Game Designer Studio and this is where FF:CC is coming from. uhhh woo?

But Crystal Chronicals is going to use the GBA Link in a new way. We will have to see about that. Its not really they have year to finish a complete game they have a year to get a working demo out of the game for full review and if it passes the fund will fund the entire development process.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.
