Pokemon Diamond: Your opinion on my party
« on: July 25, 2008, 03:16:23 PM »
This is my party in Pokemon Diamond that I championed the Elite Four with. I am     asking for a second opinon because I want to start competing online. I know that there will always be those players that have all lv. 100 pkmn, all legendaries or all starters that I know I most likely wouldn't be able to defeat. But those are only a select few who are able to obtain such a party without cheating. I just want to know how I'd do against an average user who got this far, but hasn't cheated and has a powerful, balanced party.

So, this is my party:

EMPOLEON LV.85       DIALGA LV.60        LUCARIO LV.65
- Steel Wing             - Metal Claw         - Metal Claw
- Drill Peck               - Roar of Time       - Brick Break
- BubbleBeam           -Iron Tail              - Drain Punch
- Hydro Pump           -Dragon Claw        - Strength

LUXRAY LV.62          UXIE LV.61
- Shock Wave          -Confusion
- Charge Beam         -Psychic
- Double Team         - Yawn
- Return                  -Future Sight

(edit)
I had put 2 yawns for UXIE, was supposed to be future sight.

You'd do alright against someone similar, but get destroyed by an experienced player.

Don't worry about levels you can auto-adjust those in online battles. If you want to be competitive you just need good strategies and a bit of luck, but you might want to start looking into their stats a bit more rather than the levels, their natures, where the EVs are going and so forth, if you want them to be the best they can be.

Why bother with Bubblebeam? Surf is better. Steel Wing is crap too. Can't Empoleon learn Earthquake? Also Ice Beam. Dunno about Dialga, as for Lucario get rid of Metal Claw, steel moves are pretty much useless. Confusion must be some kind of joke as well.

If you think about competing online I dont think you can use Dialga but the rest of your party seems fair. When you start playing online let me know. my friend code is 2879-1405-7372

Mario I believe Super nova was thinking with Bubble beam that it has a chance of lowering the speed of Electric types. I believe he has Drill Peck so he can use use it against other water types not to mention Grass and Fighting types. I believe he uses Steel Wing for Ice types. When you combine Bubblebeam's speed altering ability that makes Steel Wing and Hydro Pump hit better.
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.

Macdaddy if you want to beat the game thats all good. But if you seriously want to battle real life people you would get knocked way out. Sheer power never wins Pokemon anymore.
Nintendo players and One Piece readers, just better people.

Hey macdaddy, here's a few suggestions for your party. I am not an expert or anything, but I battle against people sometimes. I can only give a few at the moment for time issues, but I'll try to pop in for a few more when I get off work.

As Caterkiller said, if you want to win in game, that's probably a good team to have. However, if you want to play against competitive pokemon players, you need to make some adjustments.

First, your party consists of three pokemon that are considered uber in most pokemon circles: Kyogre, Groudon, and Giratina. You would have to focus on either having a team with all ubers (or non-ubers who can stand on their own in the uber world), or get rid of them in favor of other pokemon. Ubers are usually legendary pokemon that have huge stats. Ubers, for example, are Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, HoHo, Deoxy, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Darkrai, Dialga, Palkia, Manaphy, and Arceus. Some people also consider Garchomp uber, but I personally don't.

Another thing to think of when forming a team is to make sure most of your team doesn't have a common weakness. For example, your team would have problems against a hail team, or a team that used a lot of ice attacks. I think Zapdos, Salamence, Giratina, and Groudon are all vulnerable to ice attacks. If someone had a powerful enough Weavile, he could tear your team to pieces. I'd say try to have a team that shares at most two type weaknesses all around.

Another quick suggestion would be to get rid of attacks that overlap with each other, or take two turns to use (Except Solarbeam in some cases, and hyper beam for PorygonZ). For example, three of the four attacks your Zapdos knows are electric. If a Jolteon or Electrivire came out, you could only use Drill Peck, or else they would absorb your electric attacks. The only exceptions would be to have two type moves that functioned in different ways. Magnezone can have thunder and thunderwave. Thunder would be used to attack, and thunder wave for status effects.

Also, most tournaments have rules against moves that one hit KO pokemon.

You need to rethink a few moves. Just a few.

Kyogre Lv. 100   Groudon Lv. 100  Salamence Lv. 100  Zapdos Lv. 80
Hydro Pump       Fire blast             Fire blast                Thunder shock
Sheer Cold         Fissure                Dragon claw            Thunder
Surf                  Solar Beam          Double-Edge            Charge
Thunder            Eruption             Fly                          Drill peck

Giratina Lv. 70   Regigigas Lv. 70
Shadow force   Confuse ray
Heal block        Stomp
Earth power     Superpower
Slash               Zen Headbutt

Regigigas is terrible. Replace him with anyone. It also has to be said, Kyogre and Groudon on the same team is really weird. Although it's doubtful you'll find many people willing to battle against ubers anyway, you should focus on building aq whole team around their unique abilities. Lots of Pokemon benefit from the rain be it healing or speed boosts and thunder becomes 100% accurate, so I'd focus on that. That said Sunny Day teams can be devastating too, it's hard but if you get Solar Power going but on a Tropius and even Sunflora you can tear someone to shreds. In a trick room, a Solar Power sunflora can deal out more damange faster than Deoxys-A or Mewtwo. it's something to see.
