After mentioning a Bomberman WiiWare game back in March, Hudson Entertainment officially unveiled Bomberman Blast today. Along with the support of Mii Bombermen, it will be the first time on Wii that Bomberman will feature eight-player online multiplayer with leaderboards as well as individual and team battles.

Hudson also announced that they will be offering several online tournaments, including one that coincides with the game's launch. Potential players can check Hudson's website for more information.

HUDSON ENTERTAINMENT'S BELOVED BOMBERMAN RETURNS FOR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ON THE WII

Award-Winning Series Will Deliver 8-Person Online Multiplayer Combat And Mii Support For Hardcore Fans & Casual Gamers

REDWOOD CITY, CA - August 26, 2008 - Hudson Entertainment, the North American publishing arm for HUDSON SOFT, today announced that they are releasing Bomberman Blast, an all-new Bomberman for digital download for WiiWare on the Wii. Retaining the classic features Bomberman fans have come to love such as online multiplayer battles and numerous arenas,  Bomberman Blast also incorporates new gameplay elements, including the use of Mii support and 8-person online multiplayer - the  first time for Bomberman on Wii!

"The Bomberman franchise is one of Hudson Entertainment's most popular," said Sabine Duvall, Vice President of Product Development at Hudson Entertainment. "We're driven by the support of the fans and strive to provide unique new gameplay features with each new Bomberman title to please the longtime fans, as well as make the game accessible to newcomers."

Fans of the popular series will be able to compete either solo or as part of a team against the best Bomberman players worldwide, as Bomberman Blast delivers 8-player multiplayer battles online. By using their Miis, gamers will have the opportunity to definitively prove who has the best Mii by sending them into a Bomberman Blast arena, then blowing away the competition! Now who has the best Mii?

Bomberman Blast is the perfect party game, allowing players from around the world to join in on the fun. Up to four players on the same Wii can hop online. Even more, an online leaderboard shows just how good you are! Bomberman Blast is exactly what players would expect from a Bomberman game, with more ammunition, more online battles, and now, the support of Miis!

With the release of Bomberman Blast on WiiWare, Hudson Entertainment will offer several online tournaments, including one that coincides with the game's launch. For more information on the upcoming tournaments and to register, players can visit www.Hudsonentertainment.com.

Bomberman Blast is rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

Doesn't sound like more than 4-player local multiplayer. Come on, Hudson, you did 5 players on the TG-16, there was nothing stopping you from including 8-player local play for the people who had the controllers (and people) to pull it off.

I'm really looking forward to this.  I've honestly never played a Bomberman game.  I could never bring myself to buy any of the countless iterations because (having no experience with the game) I have no idea if I would enjoy it.  Coupled with the fact that it would be unlikely that I'd be able to find many people to play it with made for Bomberman-free life for the past two decades.

I should be able to drop up-to $10 on this game without too many qualms.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I'm with insanolord.  At first 8 players sounds great but if it's not all in one room it's not that cool.  Saturn Bomberman allowed 10 players in one room.  I want something like that.  8 player online support is still good at all but I would really like to be able to bust out Bomberman no matter how many people are over and allow everyone to play.  I might as well get Bomberman '93 instead if I want to do that.

It's more of a theoretical problem, I've never had more than 4 people in the same room with the intention of playing Bomberman (or any game, really, I usually limit my gaming get-togethers to 4 people because more than that won't work for very many games).

tell me about it. my friends NEVER EVER want to play bomberman. And the game sucks as single player affair.

it sounds like a good game. I wonder if Mii's getting blown up by bombs may cause controversy. I can already see FOXNEWS spin it and say "you can act like a terrorists and bomb Bush on the Wii"

I can't wait for this game... :)

I thought it was supposed to be out in July.  It makes me sad it isn't out yet. :(
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I was thinking more like Columbine where you can make Miis of people you know and blow them up.
