So I purchased the first three (of five total) transformers dvd box sets some time ago for retail....  here are the profiles at Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Season-Collectors-Michael-Chain/dp/B000063K17/ref=pd_bbs_6?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215453558&sr=8-6
http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Season-Two-Boxed-Part/dp/B00006L9PL/ref=pd_bbs_8?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215453558&sr=8-8
http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Season-Two-Boxed-Part/dp/B00008RH31/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215453613&sr=8-20

I now found myself wanting to complete my collection, but the final two are now out of print and overpriced...

http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Season-Part-Boxed-Set/dp/B0000C89IP/ref=pd_cp_d_2?pf_rd_p=316286001&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0001GOH8E&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=13TQDE0YXKHXFKDQ7SB7
http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Season-Part-Boxed-Set/dp/B0001GOH8E/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215453658&sr=8-34

Soo, after some digging, I found a seller that used google checkout that had them, or at least, items who's descriptions sounded EXACTLY like what I wanted but the box art didn't match.  Because the price was right, I hoped they had the wrong box art on their site and I ordered away.

Well, they arrived today, and the box art is nothing like what I expected, but the backs of the DVDs still seem to describe the right product.  Are these maybe just non collector's editions, or did I buy pirated DVDs??  Here's a crappy webcam shot of what they look like.

He's gone for a couple of weeks.

You guys haven't been paying close enough attention.  ;)

Maxi informed me via WiiMail that I had been summoned.  I've never seen those version of the DVDs, the ones I have are like the ones you described that are out of print.  Let me do some digging.

WHOOOOOOOOSH.

EDIT:  Re-entry Whooosh.  Bigbot.com has a list of all the DVDs available for purchase, but I'm not sure if is all-inclusive.

http://www.bigbot.com/videos/

It has all the ones I've ever heard of.  Right now I'm leaning towards them maybe being pie-ratted.  But I've posted a query at a Transformers forum to check for you.

EDIT AGAIN:  Did you get them from "AnimeOC"?

EDIT AGAIN AGAIN:  First judgment.

Those look like the pirated ones, especially since there are no logos or anything on the covers.

So what should I do, keep them because they should complete my collection... or mail them back and risk not getting my money back AND not having the DVDs?

PS, an email to them claimed these were "Asian versions" that they were "allowed to sell internationally".

I showed them the AnimeOC website.

The import DVDs on that site are all HK bootlegs, ESPECIALLY the ones that say The Perfect Collection.

It's up to you, but I would fight them to get your moneys back.  If you're going to watch bootlegs, you shouldn't be paying people for them.

I didn't get it from AnimeOC, but these dvds definitely say The Perfect Collection on the top.

Ah, I assumed AnimeOC 'cause they use Google Checkout and they're the only place I found those covers.  So what are you gonna do?

I dunno... i'm leaning towards keeping them just because then I'll have the episodes in question, and keeping an eye out to see if the prices on the actual box sets ever go down in price on ebay.

/sigh.  It's all very frustrating.

You might want to hold on to them if you feel comfortable watching bootlegs (myself, if I'm going to pay any money for something it better damn well be the real thing).  Hasbro bought the rights to the original show back this year, so I would imagine we'll be seeing another re-release of the seasons, probably to coincide with new movie stuff.  So you may get a more affordable version yet.

EDIT:  Got an offer from a regular for you, not sure if it's worth your trouble, though.

I can burn you copies if you want, free of charge. You just have to pay for the discs and shipping. Office Max has them for $10.00 for 10 and shipping should be less than $3.95. I think there are 3 discs in Season 3 part 1, 2 discs in part 2, and I have the rebirth trilogy on 1 disc. Just let me know. I'd love to help out a fellow fan. I won't make a profit off of this, so Renaud please don't delete this.

6 discs, and shipping, just send me $10.00. Let me know. Thanks.

I also burned the first 3 episodes of the gen 1 season 1 show so that they all play intro free as a hour and a half long episode, just like it did in 1984 when it debuted.

Should have sold them to Pale for cheap so he didn't have to be a dirty Pie-Rat.
