NYKO REMOVES THE CHAINS WITH CORD-FREE FOR WII NUNCHUK, NOW AVAILABLE AT RETAILERS NATIONWIDE

Cord-Free Wireless Adapter Provides Wii Nunchuk Owners with a Wireless Solution

LOS ANGELES - March 11, 2008 - Nyko TechnologiesĀ®, a premier peripherals manufacturer, today announced that it has shipped its Cord-Free wireless solution for the Wii Nunchuk to retailers nationwide. The Cord-Free provides a quick and simple way to convert wired Wii Nunchuk controllers into a wireless accessory for gamers yearning for more freedom of play.

Nyko's Cord-Free wireless adapter adds a convenient self-standing sleeve to the wired Nunchuk and uses a dongle that connects to the bottom of the Wii Remote. The dongle provides lag-free wireless connection between the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, providing up to 15 feet of wireless range.

Boasting up to 60 hours of continuous gameplay, the Cord-Free also features a convenient compact cord management system that keeps the existing Nunchuk cord organized and out of sight. The Cord-Free for the Wii Nunchuk runs on two AAA batteries (included).

"Nyko is committed to providing Wii gamers with multiple high-quality wireless solutions like our Kama Wireless Nunchuck and Cord-Free," said Chris Arbogast, Marketing Director at Nyko Technologies. "The Cord-Free provides an inexpensive and immediate solution for Wii owners looking to convert their existing wired Nunchuk into a wireless solution for hassle-free gameplay."

Nyko's Cord-Free wireless adapter for the Wii Nunchuk is now available at retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $19.99.

But... Nyko sucks horribly, so I would be thrilled to see Nintendo win this. ;)

No way, if Nyko was there first and they decided to see if there is a market for a Wireless Nun chuck then they deserve it for taking the risk.  A Nintendo official Wireless Nunchuck would sell even if it was late anyway.

I'm really disappointed with Nintendo. This seems excessive and mean-spirited. I want to buy a Kama now.

One thing to note about 3rd Party Accessories: They don't tend to look a whole hell of a lot (shape wise) like the official ones.  The reason is patents held by the company that produced he console.

The shape of this is pretty damn close to the official Nunchuck, so Nyko seems to have set themselves up.

Exactly, Nintendo also has to worry about perception and if it looks like a Nintendo nunchuck they could suffer image problems if the quality isn't there.

It's also important to note that when you sue someone for patent infringement, and they can show that you've not pursued similar cases in the past, it can hurt your case.

It can force companies to sue even if they don't feel this particular infraction is all that sever.

Blah blah blah. You guys are wussies.  Nintendo did not pursue an obvious direction, another company jumped the gun and Nintendo's all pissy because it looks like theirs.  Now a bunch of consumers can have the accessory they were looking for the whole time.  After all that, should Nyko really have sat around waiting for Nintendo to make and sell one?  It's probably worth the lawsuit risk.

Don't give me some crap about perception either, the Nyko logo is on the packaging and on the controller.  Thats like saying, Mr. Pibb should be sued by Dr. Pepper cause perception may suggest that since it's a dark soda and it also as a prefix, that Dr. Pepper could be faulted for Pibb's failures.  There are countless other examples like what I'm talking about, and the market always figures it's way around pussyfoot **** like this.  Sorry Nintendo, no sympathy.

Unfortunately, we'll never know, but I'm willing to bet it has *nothing* to do with the controller being wireless.  I'd bet if the controller was wired, Nintendo would still be suing.

Damn, I was going to buy one of these. Now they'll be hard to find and expensive. Nintendo had better be planning an official one.
