Author Topic: Its A Snow Day!!! (Read 6682 times)

So i live in the lower New York State area and we're having a bit of a snow storm. I usually wake up around 5am to make sure i can get to work on time, but today i woke up earlier because i knew this storm was coming. I go outside and the roads aren't even plowed yet and my car is buried under snow.I know the storm is going to last all day so i decided it'd be best to not drive and rely on public transportation so i head out for the bus. NOTHING is plowed, nothing.. i slip and fall a few times because no matter which direction i try to leave in theres a steep hill, and it doesnt matter if im going up or down it, in the end i never have enough traction and start to slide and fall all together.

needless to say i called out of work. screw em, im not gonna hurt myself getting to a job i hate. Its about 6:30 by the time i get back to the comfort of my warm room and guess what, i cant sleep! greeeaaatt.. now the suns coming up and light is gonna pour into my room and make sure i dont go back to sleep at all until nightfall.

My question to you guys is, how do you spend your snow days? Or if you live in an area that doesnt get much snow, how do you spend your days off work/school when you cant make it in for weather related reasons? Do you even jump at the chance to miss work (like i do) or are you the type to go no matter what? i know some people will take a day off and work on other things, not me though..

Normally i'd go back to sleep but i cant today, im wide awake. I'm online for a bit checking some old emails and whatnot but soon i'll crawl back into bed and finish me some Pheonix Wright: Justice for All (Shuddup im a late-commer i know. i already have Trials and Tribulations just sitting there, unopened.. waiting to be played). After that i think i'll try to finish off some of my wii games that i havent beat yet. Mario Galaxy has been waiting for me to give it some quality time. I've pretty much gotten all the normal stars i just need to get a few more hidden stars plus coin stars, etc. I want to get as close to 100% completion before i beat it because honestly, i dont know when i'll have the time to replay it. Manhunt 2 is another game on my list i need to finish, I dont even remember how far along i am in that one.

I could try to finish Trauma Center too, or unlock some new cars in Excitetruck, or even progress a little more in RE:UC but... luckily those are all games i can play for a few mins at a time. with my crazy work hours its hard to put in long playtimes but atleast in those titles i could complete a surgeory/cup/level and put it down w/o missing much. Theres just something about Mario Galaxy where if i play it i just have to keep playing.. oh and No More Heroes. Thats another one that just draws me in and doesnt let go. I'm only Rank 8!!! i still have a few levels to go.

Enough rambling from me, im off to play some games and relax. Now if i can only decide which...

I used to enjoy snow days. I would have to shovel my driveway obviously but other than that I'd relax, read a book or play a videogame. Or I'd go sledding with my brothers.

But now at work we can login remotely and it's expected of us to do so if we can't come to work for reasons other than illness. So snow days now suck. REALLY suck. The only good thing is when I get off work at 5 I don't have to commute. Otherwise it's like going to work on a weekend.

I still like Snow Days even though I have to work from home. Anyway to avoid the 2hr commute to work and the 2 hr commute back.

Snow days are pretty much normal days for me, but I love snow so it's a nice new "coat of paint" for the scenery...And I can make slushies...

Snow days were awesome when I was a kid. For some reason one snow day when I was in 6th grade sticks out for me. I had just gotten Donkey Kong Country 3 a few days earlier and I sat in my game room and played it all day. The weather along with the setting of the game just seemed to fit so well for me. As a matter of fact DKC1 + 2 very similar situations happened with snow days shortly after getting them. Snow + DKC = WIN.

Snow? The last time there was snow down here in london (early last year!) it was ONE INCH thick, and combined with the black ice totally destroyed the tube. The knock-on effect filled every bus possible so they all stank of melty ice and sweat and moans. What normally takes about an hour to get into central london from where i live took about 3.

Exactly the same thing occurred with the floods last year, and "extreme" (more than 30 degrees) heat.

okey dokey, the snow finally let up and i'm gonna go clean off my car before it gets dark and i dont feel like it anymore.

i did exactly what i said i would do; played (and finished) Pheonix Wright: Justice for All and progressed in NMH to the Battle for 6th. I died in the boss fight and told myself to just turn away before i get hooked. The weather is supposed to get worse (Freezing rain) and i dont want tons of snow on my car before that happens, so im getting my butt out there!

other than this one chore, i'm really enjoying my snow day.

You mean one inch think flakes or the snow on the ground being one inch deep? Because even in Vancouver, where our worst snowstorms are considered nothing compared to the rest of Canada, one inch of snow is no big deal. Though I did crash my car in December in snow about that high. It was hiding the evil black ice underneath.

In the last few winters we've gotten significantly more snow in my area than we did in pretty much every other year I've lived. I've heard some talk that it's because of global warming. Global WARMING causing more SNOW. Uh huh. And if that really is the cause then maybe they should switch the term to "global climate change".

We had about 2 inches here (central NJ). None of the roads were even salted or plowed, but I went to work anyway. Getting to work was a bitch, but driving home was pretty good. The parkway was nearly empty at 5pm, so I got home in record time.

The only time I got to play in the snow was when I was cleaning off my car at 8am :-(

The snow on the ground being one inch thick. Soon as it touches the ground it melts.

We have had some days of a good pounding with snow to where even the University I go to shut down twice within 7 days and before that it had been about 4 years or so since the last closing. Heard that we have had 70 inches total of snow this winter with a lot of it coming in a few snow storms however it seems to always melt before the next one shows up.

Schools around me were closed on Tuesday including Universities. Too bad I'm on my SPRING break... Darn Catholic Uni and early Easter.
