Audio Wire Strippers
« on: December 13, 2007, 04:08:14 PM »
I bought a pair of these and I have no idea how to use them. I'm trying to strip the insulation off some 18 gauge speaker wires for my new speaker set and don't have a clue about how these things work. Any advice would be much appreciated!

It's hard to explain with words, so just watch either of these two videos, and hopefully it helps:

Awesome, thanks. It has been a pain trying to get these wires stripped, I did have a cheap one that you "adjusted" by unscrewing a bolt and it was terrible.

A sharp pair of scissors works too.  If you partially close them, so it splits the rubber, you just turn the scissors till you complete the circle.  Then just pull.

And I know how to jumpstart a car. I'm not the only one that has problems, when I was trying the other night I was cutting the wires themselves.

Did you buy really cheap thin speaker wire?  That's when it's easy to cut the wire too.

Well they came with the speaker system. I got some 18 gauge thick wires from Radioshack that are color coded and things are working great now with the automatic stripper which is SOOOO easy to use.
