Samba the Amigo should be on the Wii...
« on: March 25, 2007, 09:12:25 AM »
Seriously, I just saw footage of it on YouTube and thought the Wiimote and nunchuck could easily simulate the original game's maracas.

If I am not mistaken, the original maracas consisted of motion sensors, right? Well, both the Wiimote and the nunchuck has motion sensing integrated into them so its not like its impossible to emulate the gameplay of SDA on the Wii.

Plus, this would be an excellent chance for fans who never played the original to try it on the Wii. Plus, the game would be MUCH MORE cheaper (the original game set you away over 80 bucks because of the maracas and carpet), since the extra components are already available when you buy the Wii.

Also, in fear of Sonic Team messing it up, they should just take the original game plus the expansion pack, bundle them on a DVD and BE DONE WITH IT. No extra additions, no new gameplay features, no reworked graphics, NOTHING. Maybe a new song here and there, but nothing else. This guarantees that what we get is the original game intact, not a reworked version with tons of flaws (we all know what happened to Sonic Adventure on the GC).

Here are the two videos I was talking about:
Video 1
Video 2

Since I never played the game myself, feel free to add to the discussion.

I don't think it'sa that simple. I think... that Samba De Amigo also requires height information. I think they actually had sensors in the controllers which looked down at some IR source, and determined the controller's height that way (distance from ground).

Now, the Wiimote and nunchuck CAN shake, but they don't know their relative height from one position to another. Boxing actually uses the controllers tilt to determine how high the character is holding their gloves or punching, for example. The gameplay would have to be changed subtly to account for this and use a different, more suitable mechanism, for Samba De Amigo or any other Maraca game.

Perhaps to account for the height, the Wiimote and Nunchuck could sense downward and upward movement based on velocity and that would indicate whether or not you were shaking the maracas up high or down low. It would be a tough situation to program though, because too much maraca shaking could really mess that up. It's probably doable though, and certainly worth doing. There are more than a few people out there who would love to see Samba Wii Amigo and people who have never heard of the game before that would be all over it, especially with the rhythm game craze that is happening nowadays.

Gameplay and shows how it works

I dont think gyro's would work with this game
Plus alot of the music is too old, such as sonic songs and the pop songs

BUMP!

Sorry for bumping the thread but considering that its been officially confirmed I figured we should start discussing it.

I am wondering how it will play if its true that both the arcade and home versions utilized a special setup.

They could easily have similar, if not identical, gameplay.
