The Wi-Fi connection boards...
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:21:51 AM »
...suck.

In fact, I would support a reorganization of the forums on the whole.

Gaming Forums:
Wii and GameCube
- Wii Games, Virtual Console Downloads and GameCube Games
Nintendo DS and Game Boy
- DS and GameBoy (note the change in forum name!)
NWR WiFi Connections
- A board to arrange Wi-Fi matches, trades in Animal Crossing (Perhaps an AC sticky), and to talk about past matches.  Also, Friend Code trades would happen here.
Other Systems
- Still for other systems and news about other companies.
Technical Discussion and Troubleshooting
- For all Technical talk and Troubleshooting, including WiFi

Community Forums:
General Chat
- Same as it's always been
Funhouse
- A secret forum about wresting and where Bill really keeps his candy.

Nintendo World Report:
TalkBack
NWR Discussion
Trivia Results

Forums that would be deleted:
Announcements
- The forum is *rarely* used.  No need for it.
GameCube
- Combined into the Wii forum
NWR Friend Codes
- Part of the NWR WiFi Connection forum.  This forum stinks, in that older FC topics get pushed off the main viewing page and, if someone wants to trade, say, Clubhouse Games friend codes, they won't (normally) see that topic and just assume there isn't one.  And they can't start a topic to trade Friend Codes for it.
WiFi Support
- Now a part of the Technical Discussions forum
Smack Talk
- Renamed NWR WiFi Connections
Animal Crossing: Wild World Trading Post
- Not used, merged into NWR WiFi Connections board.
Gameplay Strategy and Reader Reviews
- Both forums would (basically) be merged into their respective system's boards.  i.e.: Questions and Reviews about Wii games would go on the Wii board, etc...  This is basically what happens anyway.

Any thoughts?

I still think VC needs its own forum.  It would encourage individual threads about the games available.  It's pretty hard to have a decent thread about Punch Out!! because it would get lost either in the VC Mondays thread or pushed back several pages on the general Wii board.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I thought about a general VC forum (or, perhaps a "Legacy" forum for all pre-GCN/GBA Nintendo talk), but I didn't know how much support it would get...

I fully support UncleBob's plan here, and also feel that the less boards you can get away with, the better. In that sense, I really can't see VC deserving its own forum with the level of discussion about it right now.

I like the legacy board, for everything before the GBA, including VC games.  All the other changes seem to be a good idea, too.  I can get down with this stuffs.

I personally think the Reader Review Board is essential to the site.  The main argument is that if you don't agree with a review then you should right your own.  Which I personally have about multiple games and I will eventually get that hardware one up. (The acceptable alternative could be intensive but neat though I won't get into that know.

Technical discussion and Troubleshooting rarely gets used.

A also agree with a Legacy VC board.

The GameCube and Wii boards should definitely be merged, like the DS and the Game Boy ones were.

Something needs to happen soon with this, I think.  Just looking into the Pokemon part of the Friend Code forum makes me sick.  So much discussion, along with people who never plan on posting around here.

Edit: Hopefully Shift key fixed it.  Maybe now things will be a little smoother in there.

#2:  Wow, someone really tore into it.  It's missing about three pages now.  Thanks!

Yes, I took a large ban stick to the Pokemon FC thread.  Some people just can't follow instructions, no matter how clear you make them.

As for the forum reorganization, I think Windy already has some plans to do this.  I'll make sure he sees your suggestions, UncleBob.

Well, I hope no one minds, but I posted another message similar to Shift Key's in the Friend Code section.  If anyone with moderation powers deems it inappropriate for the place or the situation, please go right ahead and delete it.  Although I doubt it, I still hope that it will help some people realize how things work here.

Just a suggestion, and I'm pretty sure Jonnyboy117 is already on it, but it would be nice to see a dedicated forum or at least a sticky for the NWR - Pokemon League Tournament.

I'm not sure how posting friend codes will go, but is there someway we could lock the friend code thread, and PM a staffer our Friend codes and have them post it up on the friend code list, that way no noobs could flood the friend code threads.
