Before it closes, usually if the game has been getting decent reviews and I care about the genre I'll buy it. I seldom rent or get used games unless they are older games that cannot be found in the store.

I'll say this:' I feel no sp[ecial impetus to buy a game on the first day it's out. Sometimes I'll be thinking of buying a game and get it two monthys after its release, or even later. I'm trying not to do this so much nowadays with third party games, but Nintendo games I'll feel especially comfortable with getting later than usual.
