Mafia: The Next Incarnation (n + 1 for you math geeks)
« on: February 15, 2007, 10:05:23 PM »
Ok guys, since the last Mafia has been wrapped up I figure its time to announce the next game. I will be running this game.

The premise of this game is based around personalities. Some have earned a reputation over the era of Mafia for their excellence at the game. Some have been easy prey for the mob. All this has been based on their PGC/NWR account.

What if you don't know the person that you are voting for? What if you couldn't trust the people in your team?

So for this game, I require that people PM me through a alternative account (or dupe as you trendy people like to call it). The more obscure it is, the better the game will be. And by better, I mean more amusing. You do not have to tell me who you really are, but it would be nice to know who I am building this story around from a gamemaster's perspective.

Anyway, while its a long way off, I'm starting this game on the 5th of March 0800 GMT. The roles will be defined based on the people who sign up - I have a lot of potential roles, but it will be dependent on the number of signups. Obviously, this is very early on, so I'll refine the details as the start date approaches.

So no signups below. Just PM me with your account name and I will start a list of the players in the next few days.

Just talking outloud.

It would've made a lot more sense if I did this with my game.

Wait, is everyone supposed to play through a dupe account?

This kind of makes Mods ineligible.

Yeah, RAB's game and talking with Khush during the last game triggered this idea.

I see where you're coming from. But I wanted to see a game where everyone was on the same level. I know that more and more people are earning a reputation for being cunning players at this game and this makes them easy targets fto be voted out or killed. Take away the personality and it makes things a lot harder for both sides - and you have to depend a lot more on voting records, investigation-like abilities and messages.

If you can think of a better way to do this that maintains the integrity of the mods then I'm open to suggestions.

Yeah, I don't like this idea. It should be more refined before it's set as the next official mafia game. You might just want to scrap it for now until you've thought this through. It sounds interesting, but not too practical.

I've got to ask about the avatar, Shift Key. I just can not place that face. I know I've seen it from something but just can not think from where or who.

There's a couple of signups already. Let me know if you are happy to play as your regular account, I haven't set this in stone yet. It seems that some people are happy to play on their own name, if that's the case for the majority then I'll make it a more normal Mafia game.

Yeah. I'm sure he was a villian in a movie I saw. I'm trying to think if maybe it was a kids film or what. It doesn't help that the avatar keeps flashing. Take a look..Too slow. Maybe I'll figure it out.

By the way, you say some people are happy to play under their own name. Does that mean people have been sending you some messages?

I get what you want to do. Put everyone on even ground and take away all history. I've been trying to think if there is some way to do this but so far I haven't been able to come up with a good solution.

I really don't get your complaint. The way I see it is this, the game will like any other mafia game, but everyone has a fair chance. There would be no grudges or VEDETTAS!! from past games and people like Bill won't get voted out the first day (As long as he tones down the loli).

As long as the moderators don't have a problem with it, I can see this being one of the best Mafias in a while.

Well, I guess it's just the problem of using dupes to play. It seems odd to me. But I'll sign up.

I think I will just pass anyways. if I make a dupe account, then I will attract unwanted attention by the mods.

I would play as myself but that kinda ruins what your trying to do.

Only 6 signups so far. I guess I haven't been vocal enough. Since some poeple are happy to play under their regular account then I'll open it up to whoever and whatever they decide to choose.

Its still slated to start on the 5th. I'll post some details of the storyline (oh snap gotta work on a story of some sort).

For me, it is all or nothing. If everyone is going to use a false identity, then I would also. But if some people are going to play under their normal forum name, I will also. I know this decision may please mafias as it makes their first hit a bit easier but I do not hide from these tactics. Moreover, I'm proud of my name and the reputation it has.

Now, if you really wanted to switch the game up, (and this isn't possible) have everyone swap their actual identities. So, I would take TVMan and TVMan would get Vudu and so on. Now this makes for an even more interesting game as people are playing against themselves and preconceived notions about the names of the players.

Yeah, that hits the same issue as before - some people can't use another account here, and the logisitics of sharing accounts would be a nightmare for all involved. And think of the damage someone could do with an account that wasn't theirs.

Yeah, this is looking more and more like regular mafia now. Hold on to those reputations, it makes for better accusing parlour nights.

Also, I've got in the works a plan for Draw 4 SUFFA immunity award as a nightly event.

The outstanding vote - it can be funny, it can be downright cruel, it can be creative, whatever amuses me greatly - will be immune from death by public vote or hits. I choose, so it will be a dictator's choice. But if no-one makes a decent vote then it doesn't get awarded. Simple as that. It doesn't have to be limited to words, either. Either faction can participate. And yes, it will be available for the duration of the game.

The catch is that it won't be for that night, but the night after. I'm not sure when the best time is to announce it, as it could be indicated privately or publicly.

Let me clarify

VOTE SOMEONE will get you nothing. That stuff is boring. Go the extra yard and make the game interesting and I will reward you.

That could be interesting. But I'll warn you right now that you have to be careful in how you do that. If it is too subjective, you may get complaints that you are rigging or interfering with the game. I'm not sure how you'd want to work it obvioulsy but may I suggest you take a look at what I did once for such a thing. In Mafia 12, the one day mafia, I had an immunity contest also. With that I used a trivia question, you knew it or you didn't and I also let everyone know the time it would be asked so that those who wanted to participate would know when to be ready. Anyways, it's just a suggestion. A little something to consider.
