Bonk's Adventure might be my first VC download.  Depends on if it's any good.  ... Is it?

Btw, where the heck is Gunstar Heros and Toe Jam & Earl?  I want both of those.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Interesting fact about the virtual console: Bomberman '93 is 5 players at max and to get 5 people going you mix and match wii remotes and gamecube controllers so technically VC games can max out at 8 players.

Only if they allow you to save/suspend progress.... that game is long.

Also, I have a question about bomberman... it allows 5 player play.  Can you play with 1 wir emote and 4 GCN controllers?

Pretty good. L button is Z, R is camera, C stick is camera, A jumps B punches. No complaints, I've gotten 12 stars now.

edit: When are the Monday releases coming out? And what are they? I want, Nintendo, I want.

VC games (well, at least Bonk's Adventure) feature suspend points.

I haven't downloaded Bomberman, but supposedly, you can use any combination of GCN and Wii controllers to make a total of 5 players.

whoa! they are making the Z button L?! YES!!! thank you nintendo! thank you! I assume this will be the new standard for all 64 games, it just makes sense.... now i have a question for you!

when playing mario 64 and pressing the L button to act as Z... do you need to pull the L trigger all the way in till you hear a 'click' for it to activate? or can you just tap it and it will react? Thanks

Had to turn my Wii on to figure that one out. Your answer: you have to click the L button all the way down. You can't just tap it. Same goes for R and the camera control. I anticipate this will be true for every VC game using L and R. Also, you can use the GameCube pad's Z button as Z as well.

So far there's no telling if Nintendo is uniquely configuring a GC control scheme for each N64 game. I, like you shrapnel09, assume that this will be the standard button layout for all N64 games. However, more important is that the Virtual Console tells you (as does the Wii manual, I think) that VC games have been optimized for the Classic Controller - in fact Super Mario 64 tells you this every time you boot it up. Of course they want to encourage sales, but I don't want to see games that are unplayable if we don't own a Classic controller.

With this "optimization" in mind, I would further surmise (without any way to prove it even if I did have a Classic Controller) that it is possible for each N64 button to be mapped differently on the classic controller, depending on the game.

More mysteries: I wonder how games with multiple control schemes will play on GC and Classic, as well.

hmm, i would figure it might get tiring having to click it all the way down for such a common button when used on the N64... oh well i was testing it out using the Z button the GC controller, and i guess it wasnt all that bad. (i dont have a wii i was just pressing z in the dark.. alone, trying to imagine).

And i doubt they will let you map your own buttons, i searched and scaned, and from what i heard you are stuck with what they give ya, cause i would think that L would act as a Z button on the classic pad for N64 games, but i guess why they gave ya two 'z's on both sides, but im not sure how that plays out because apparently only 2 people in the world got the retro controller and post on internet forums at the same time!

But thanks for your help, time to make a thread about compairsons between the real deal and the new VC games.

What I mean is that it's possible they remap the buttons for the Classic controller, creating a new layout for each game. On the GC controller, L is always going to be Z, and the C-Stick is always going to be the C buttons. That will suck for games like Zelda that use the C buttons as buttons, not camera.

Using L for Z hasn't been an issue for me since when I need to use Z I tend to smash down on the L trigger. I don't think it will make a difference for anyone. I'm a Super Mario 64 fan, and I'm having no problems.

In regards to zelda using the C buttons, i have played OOT and MM on the GC via promotion disc, and the C setup didnt really bother me at all.  It felt a little different than the original two but i got used to it fast, the only thing you need to watch out for is playing the orcina, one tends to mess up more often when using C as a thumbstick.  But again this is something you get used to pretty quick and it doesnt become a problem for long.
